Firewire Ext Hardrive help ?

i have a 160gb WD media centre hardrive running on firewire

problem is it turns itself off after about 10mins of no activity which is a bit quick for me.

i know that the maxtor external drives come with a program to alter the time of firewire disconnecting etc.

does anyone have this or any other program to control firewire time out ?

I have an external enclosure that runs on both firewire & USB and it never shuts off alone, so is yours a problem with windows or the drive itself?

yup. i mean it boots back up again as soon as u ask it. but i dont want it to keep shutting down so quickly as it cant be good for the drive

Sounds a bit like my old noisy laptop drive , it used to power down after a couple of mins of inactivity until i realised i could change that in windows power settings. But that was the main drive so it usually didnt have enough inactivity to power down.

This one doesnt sound right though, if you've checked the power options and device manager, i would have thought it'd be a function of the hardware. Does it do it when connected to other computers?
