I'm looking to buy a memory stick soon - probably with 256 MB memory, but I might go for a 512 if I see one cheap enough. Apart from the obvious differences of the speed from USB 2.0, what alse should I look out for?
* Are there mostly all the same size, or does it vary?
* Does anyone have any recommendations?

I've not tried very many, but they all worked fine. The only specific one I can remember using is a Kingston, but I should think that most would be okay.
With regards to size, all the ones that I've seen all seem to be around the same size.
Try an intelligentstick / istick, they are a LOT smaller than most, smaller than a sony memory stick, I got my 256mb from Ebuyer for ~£25.
A lecturer in uni told us that some students in previous years had bought "cheaper" ones and after 6 or so months they started to go wrong. So it might be better to go for a branded one rather than a non branded one.
Have you tried these? I know they're a lot smaller, but in one of the pictures of them, if looked like you need to put it in a holder - why????Quote:

Currently using a Kington 256mb memory stick (since August this year), works great although it's a bit on the big side, not enough to be a problem though. Had a cheapo one last year and it broke.
Looked on eBuyer and the brand is PQI.

I found it on maplin, but on there, the 256 is the same price as the ebuyer 512 MB.
They had 256mb @ Ebuyer when I got mine, but that was a while ago. The only place I can see them now is ebay for £15.
Do you think ebay's a decent place to get them? Yes they maybe cheap, but is it likely I'll be messed around?

Ive only had one problem with ebay where someone sent me the wrong hard drives, Ive used it quite a few times. But for something like this which you assume is in a sealed package it should be fine. You should also still get the manufacturers warranty.
But be sure to check where the seller is registered and their feedback rating, the one I just looked at is the US. Personally I only buy things from the UK off of ebay, but obviously its your choice.
Is the £14.95 including all the postage, packing and insurance etc, or is that extra?
Thats £7 extra, look in the bit next to the picture for the shipping rates, etc.
I've had about 7 different brands of USB memory sticks, mostly sent from SE Asian companies as samples.
The best one I've used are PNY ones, I have it on my keyring so it gets rattled around a lot, so much so, the colour is chipping off it, but the memory itself is still going strong.
A word of advice, do NOT get any one that comes with a small switch on it so that you lock the drive (much like a floppy disc). These little switched tend to snap off very easily normally locking you drive permanently.
