I leave mine on alot, almost 24/7. But i have to admit when i first got it a year ago it was silent, now the fan is making slight noises and the new hard drive has this seek noise that is a little annoying as the old HD had no noise at all.

I think the fan problem is due to my house being quite dusty, i will open it up soon to see if i can clean it up

Mine gets a bit toasty admittedly but it sits on a custom made stand so there's plenty of airflow passing underneath.

My sony VGN-B1VP has been on 24/7 and has been excellent, the guys in the office with D600 Lattitude dells have to turn thiers off at night as the chassis gets seriously hot, Del puts it down to the 7,200RPM HDD, personally I think its a design fault, but thats just me, as my Sony chassis stays nice and cool.

Acer TravelMate 804 stays on 24/7. HDD gets a bit warm when it's in intensive use, but it soon cools back down.

My colleague lent over to me while i was reading your response and told me about an article he was reading in the newspaper he had, apparently having a laptop on your lap regularly can cause infertility because you're raising the temperature of your genital areas as much as 5 degrees.

Don't know how much truth there is in it, but if you haven't had kids already and want to maybe nows a good time to try.

Compaq Evo N600c ran 24/7 no problems at all for quite a long time.

Dell D600 had running 24/7 for a month now, gets a bit warm now and then, but no probs yet ..... full load 24/7, crunching SETI
    Wibble

    Currently wanted:
    DVB- satellite pci card

yup, my T22 and T23 are on almost all the time.

No bad effects, although I do regular battery discharges once every couple of months to keep it in tip top shape
    It is Inevitable.....
