Cpu cooler. Is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO really all that?
A friend and I are building a setup on a fairly tight budget, and we have set aside £30 for a cpu cooler.
I've been told that the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO is great for the price, and the reviews for it are ridiculously good. However, I was also told that it is not as good in England as it is in America. No clue why, possibly manufactured differently or the like, but the stats (apparently) did not come out the same. So even though any american would swear by it, is it a good buy for me in the UK? And are there any other good coolers for thirty pounds out there?

It's good - but do you need a uprated cooler? I recommend starting one thread where you list your component choices (in review my build forum) then we can get the whole picture rather than lots of separate threads that are hard to keep together.

Re: Cpu cooler. Is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO really all that?
It's good for £25, but it's not going to rival more expensive coolers.
And yes there are other cheap coolers that will do the same job.
But then most modern processors don't need fancy coolers, so the evo is probably fine.
As kalniel says, it depends rather on your other components, so let us know :)

For the price bracket it's very good, there are better but you'll pay more.
The EU/UK version has a lower rpm fan than the US version, so less air flow and less maximum cooling but also less noise.
the question you have to ask is what you want out of a cooler?
then Will it fit in my case?

Re: Cpu cooler. Is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO really all that?
I'll set up a rate my build thread in just a little while. The main thing I want from the cooler is good airflow more than anything else.
I honestly don't care about flashy bells and whistles and such for my components. it's just about being efficient.
I'll have 167mm of clearance, which is quite nice.
The cpu is Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
I don't plan on overclocking, so my cooler doesn't need to be fierce.

In which case why are you spending up to £30 on a cooler when the stock cooler will let you run your CPU at stock speeds at no additional cost and with ample cooling power to keep it running stable.

Would a stock cooler have good longevity?

Yes, they're fine.

Also once the FAN control is engaged, you need some good ears or a very quiet environment to hear it.
EDIT: If by any chance he would be still set for a alternative cooler, how about http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/be-q...u-cooler-bk013 (may need to stretch the budget a bit further).

Have you had any experience with that cooler?
I suppose I underestimate stock coolers, but they may do the trick. I'll have to think on it.

Re: Cpu cooler. Is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO really all that?
I helped install one and it was a little bit of an awkward one.
If the stock cooler isn't performing well i.e too loud and /or hot then it's a a relatively cheap and cheerful solution, otherwise if it's working without issue then there's no obvious reason to change. Arctic cooling stuff is also good for that as well.

The stock cooler should be fine, it can get a bit noisy if you have extended load cycles.
the Zalman CNPS10X-Optima would also be a good low cost option to look at.

Over stock on an AMD 8350 it's quieter and a lot more cooler, for the price it's worth it.

Why not try the stock cooler and then buy an alternative cooler if you feel the stock cooler is not delivering the performance you want.

Stock coolers do the job they are designed to do.
Intel and AMD are huge companies with huge resources and produce coolers that do exactly what they need to do.

I use the Hyper 212 Evo with my i5 4690K @ 4.4 Ghz. The average temps stay in the mid fifties with maximum going up to mid sixties. To be fair, it's the winter, I don't think the same level of performance will be seen during the summer.

Re: Cpu cooler. Is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO really all that?
I'd still take a 3rd party cooler even at stock speeds, purely for the sake of my ears.

Re: Cpu cooler. Is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO really all that?
I recommended the Hyper 212 fr my friend and the price to performance for the cooling is really good. It only just fit in his case though lol

Re: Cpu cooler. Is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO really all that?
I've got one for my i5 2500k which is overclocked to 4.5GHz. Works like a charm, fairly quiet and keeps it at a comfortable temperature even for long sessions of Battlefield 4 which I've had quite a few of..
Keep in mind I have a Bitfenix Phenom M, which is a very compact computer case.

George

The 212 EVO was great in the day but the Arctic Freezer i30 CO is better.

Anything to back that up?
212 is still very good, but there are a few good coolers to be had at around that price point.

The older i30 version from 2 years ago was even better than the 212 EVO

Price difference between the i30 CO (updated model) and 212 EVO on Scan is around a fiver.
Both are good but i'd personally go with the i30 CO for just a fiver more.
