    Dont wanna downgrade

heres the problem guys...ive got a nice computer sitting here in front of me

1700 @ 2.2ghz, 260gb storage, nf7-s v2 thermaltake case etc AND 1gb 2X512 of corsair twinx pc4000.... this is all dandy and plays the games nicely, on a 9600pro

so then i got this shuttle, which is pretty cool (see the thread i made in the sff section) its ok, but as i used the shuttle, i began to like it, and benchmarked it agaisnt other computers, and found it easily, beat a lot of amd systems, on all 3 categories, ram, cpu and hdd (i was using pc mark 02) but then it got beaten on the ram area by one of my mates setups, ()

so ive decided to put my ram into the shuttle ( the 2 512's of ddr500, pc4000) so i did this late last night, and it wouldnt post, a quick swap back of the ram to the old stuff and its dandy, mmm so i checked the spec of the shuttle i have, and it says the fastest ddr it takes is 400, its there anyway i can get it to accept my ddr500?

    thx

The problem is most likely that your 400MHz DDR has tighter timings than your 500MHz. If you put the PC4000 in and reset the BIOS it will probably work fine.

It's a Shuttle, they're dead fussy about what slots you put them in. Try 1 stick and try all the slots.

On the shuttle, try putting in the pc4000 and then in the BIOS, try putting the timing on SPD. These are the settings that are factory set (i believe). You should also be able to see them, so at least you know what level to start at.

If they work fine, then you can start tightening the timings and benching to get optimal settings. But pc4000 should work fine in a 400mhz board. I'm currently running my pc3500 at just 400mhz, so its in sync with my cpu.

    Let us know what happens

Why would you reset the PC that takes the PC4000? You just said it's the Shuttle you are having problems with, so of course the Shuttle. Either put the memory in the Shuttle that works and relax the timings so it will post when you have the PC4000 in or put the PC4000 in and reset the BIOS. Either should work.

    ok so time has passed,

was looking in the shuttesl bios last night, and have sen that teh timings are 3-6-2-2, and they cant be changed much unlike my main computer lets me, what is the slackest out of all the timings available so as to have the most chance of it running this ddr500 ram

the settings available for each are:

    CAS lantency = 2,2.5,3
Active to precharge delay = 8,7,6,5
DRAM ras to cs delay = 4,3,2
    DRAM ras precharge = 4,3,2

the memory frequency is also set to AUTO atm, he only other option available is dr266...

    what should i do?

Does the Shuttle have a jumper by the battery (usually marked JP1)? If so, shut the computer off, put the PC4000 in, jumper to clear CMOS, turn power on, turn it back off, place jumper in original position, turn the system back on and see if it posts. If it does go into the BIOS and set everything to your liking.
