Your current setup isnt exactly a slouch. If you arent playing lots of games/going for all out performance with your new setup then why ditch your intel setup? You will miss out on the niceities of things like HT for everyday use IMHO if you dont actually need the extra performance.

if u put ur sata on 3+4 ports which are locked u won't have any problems.

Apparently they are all locked, but some people have had issues so they use 3 and 4. My Raptor is on 3 at the moment, and is perfectly fine. The locks are solid; I don't think you'll need a PCI RAID controller.

Stuck my 250GB Data disk on a PCI serial card though fantastic performance from the raptors and the data

The DFIs I've tested lock. The MSIs are 50/50. 6 did and 7 didn't. If you want to be ABSOLUTELY SURE your drives are safe a controller card is the best way.

Myth, you talk as if the P4EE is in the same class as the A64. It isn't. Even the cheapest single channel A64 is faster than a P4EE if overclocked properly, and P4EE based systems will never run 64 bit software and operating systems when they are available, which will be sooner than later. I'll never understand why Intel thinks it can charge such rediculous prices for the P4EE but I guess if you need a P4 (???) the P4EE is the best Xeon (oops, I mean P4) in terms of performance.

Since I have an evga ultra I could use the step up program to trade it in for an PCI express card! but It would be alot of work and take alot of time... But I'd be able to go nfource 4... just a thought, I dought theres any diference in performance any way...

Prob no diff but get an nForce4 Ultra with SLi and use the step up prog to get an SLi Ultra, if in the future your feeling rich then get another one

I'd stay away from SLI and NF4 for awhile. The first implementations of a new chipset always has problems, and the first implementations of a new I/O buss is even more likely to be very bad. It usually takes awhile for decent boards to come out when a new slot type is being used. Look at PCI. The first boards that came out supported both PCI and VLB, as well as EISA, but not very well. They sucked pretty bad.

I agree about SLI, but I think the NF4 will be solid, as it's really an NF3 on steroids.

lol... I figured it out! Its a newy... Also I have some good news! I just bought a 3500 winny brand new! I lost that 3800 on ebay... stupid insane biders! Now all I need to do is buy a mobo with my next check from work!

I just read the Hexus review of the Asus AV8 Deluxe... The internet is on a mavel controler tied threw the PCI bus! I cant have that! Does any one know of a mobo that doesnt have the internet lan tied to the PCI buss?

Edit: and what the heck is this crap?

"High CPU utilisation rates are a feature of VIA chipsets. The overall STR graph is just what we'd expect from a 36GB Raptor. "

The Asus boards are going to be the A02 revision of the silicon used for the nforce4 chipset. The A01 revisions had an issue with the HTT system only being able to run @ 4x ( which equates to 1600 Mhz ) but the A02 had this issue resolved and now runs @ 5 x 400 Mhz ( 2000 Mhz ) HTT.

This was the first question I asked our Asus contact when I heard about the SLI setup hence why they are out now rather than in November when the nforce4 chipset was released.

To an overclocker 5x LDT is useless anyway because it can't run 5x (or even 4x) at 280-320MHz FSB base. The ability to lower the LDT multi is an overclocking feature for a reason.

Also, I've run many NF3 250 Pros and K8T800 Pros at 250MHz X 4 (same as 200 X 5) so I don't really know what you're on about. If you're saying A02 will be faster than A01 I'd say no. If you are saying it will be faster stock I'd say maybe, but let's not forget that this IS the "Overclocking Forum".

I can see where you are coming from but there are a few users don't bother playing with the "front side bus" or multipliers on processors but simply clock their graphics instead

I was simply making others aware that there was issues with the silicon as you stated and that the issue was already fixed and what had been fixed by nvidia in relation to the 2nd revision.

Anyway, whatever speed they run at - they still kill Intel's offerings in regards to gaming and will continue to do so throughout 2005
