I was really happy with my shuttle, except for the whiny noise the fan made. The on-board gfx are ok for 2d work but don't have enough poke for 3d.

I don't know anyone that isn't happy with their shuttle.

brilliant little things, some have onboard gfx like mine, if i was buying one now it'd be the SN45, no onboard but a better motherboard than my current SN41

I have had three P4 shuttles and they are all great.

Thinking of getting one now for myself again when I can.

My Wife has a SS51, with a P4 2.26 and although I have put a low flow fan in there, it ran all though that hot period we had in the UK a few weeks a go on load 24/7

    I think Shuttles are great.

Well I'm just finishing of a SV25 as a quiet download box and it's beautiful. My first shuttle and I managed to pick it up cheap. It's got a Via C3 800MHz processor in it and 256M of RAM. Run's not to bad and is VERY quiet. I love the way it looks, realy classy.

Get a shuttle as long as it's looks and not performance you require.

ssf machines rule...the sn45g ...i run my 2500 barton at 11x200 and ram at 2.3.2.2 on stock volts...runs 213x10.5 but the ram cuts out...also they soo modable...my temps are 45ish idle, 50 after some extreme loading...but then again i do have the shim on , and my AS3 work prolley isnt as good as it could be

edit: lol, no performance...u must be kidding...mines armed with a ti4200 ... 70fps+ in ut2003 with all the eye candy, even AF

YES the general opinion is Shuttles are GREAT! MSI's MEGA are also looking good though are in their early days and at the mo P4 533FSB (max) only. Downsides to modern Shuttles tend to be limited upgrades (usually 1xPCI & 1xAGP), small PSU (but what are you going to need), lack of space (obviously), lack of adaptability/moddability, lack of TVout (use an AGP card) and they'll knock you about £100 over a comparable midi-tower. You should get LAN/NIC, USB, 5.1 type audio and possibly Firewire so there isn't much you should need from the PCI slot. Many Shuttles do have onboard gfx but the best is easily nForce2 IGP with GF4MX which is still very poor and can be had in AGP form for £30 anyway (inc TVout). You should find all modern Shuttles have an AGP slot and that means GF4TI4200 (£75) or Rad9600PRO (£130) can be easily added and easily beat many full sized tower systems ... there are usually no speed compromises by getting a Shuttle vs a tower with the same mobo chipset. To get an idea of pricing www.dabs.com ...

    £161 Shut SS51G (SiS651)
    £191 Shut SN45G (nF2 ultra400)
    £235 MSI MEGA651 (SiS651)
    £240 Shut SB61G2 (i865G)

SiS651 is pretty old and limited to 533FSB (4x133) although o/c'ing to 660FSB (4x165) is certainly possible, could be fine with the right 533FSB based P4 NW. The 865 is the new Intel chipset supporting 800FSB, plus all 800FSB P4's have HT which is a nice bonus, but you pay the price! The best AMD option is easily the nForce2 SN45G which gives you the top-of-the-range SktA mobo. Definitely what I'd rec along with a £70 AthlonXP2500+ which should be easily o/c'able to a PC3200+ inc 400FSB.
