    Essentially, yes - if you're not limited on CPU time then gaining more CPU time doesn't do anything to help. Any richer experience take quite a bit of extra code work from devs, it's not like scaling up graphics.

    And if you've already written the code with DX12 calls, why would you throw that code away for the port?
    DX12 is not hardware agnostic. Writing DX12 call for XBO doesn't save you from having to write it for PC (or indeed different specifications of PC). It may still be less effort to write one DX11 version than doing DX12 for all the different PC capabilities, especially when that DX11 version will work on older OSen.

    I'm well aware of the theory behind it Are you saying that no next gen title utilises all the cpu cores or have not been "reduced" to allow them to run on the CPU resources available?

    Not in a way that would make it worth taking advantage of DX12 for PC ports. Assassin's creed is probably the most CPU limited game at the moment on consoles but improving performance would just be to get framerates higher/more consistent rather than adding anything in. But using by default DX12 for a fixed system like console makes more sense than for PC.

    Well, I guess we will see. I find it hard to believe Microsoft are pushing it this hard, putting it in Window 10 and XBO and will not try to force a new standard platform....It just the way the industry is (finally) pushing.

    And that, in part is because the current DirectX version on the Xbox one (DirectX 11.X) is already running very 'close' to the hardware anyway. It's not the same DirectX 11 that's on the PC. The API might be similar, but how it's implemented is different. The advantage of having hardware that is the same out of the box!

    This isn't aimed at anyone, but just to note: DirectX 11.x is not a case of x being a number. There is an actual version of DirectX11 called "DirectX 11.X" for the Xbox One.
