What should the idle temp be for an i5 3470 + H80i?

Im intrigued to know as I get around a 37 degree idle temp, which doesn't seem right to me.

I used Arctic MX-2 thermal paste to apply it. Any ideas?

That is not ok. Unless the PC is next to a radiator.

Would say between 20-30, depending on the ambient temperature.

Does it clock down in idle? EIST enabled?

It used to be in front of a radiator, but it was set up as exhaust. I'll add some pictures and more info when I get to my pc

Re: What should the idle temp be for an i5 3470 + H80i?

    Hovering around 0.9V

I spent the most of yesterday re configuring the fans etc and I've now got it set up as follows: http://prntscr.com/5ixeqj

On idle, it's hovering around http://prntscr.com/5ixeya

However, it can jump to 37 ish http://prntscr.com/5ixfhj

Re: What should the idle temp be for an i5 3470 + H80i?

I have the same chip, idles at 31-32 with fan at 1900rpm (I run it at 1250 with a target temp of 65C, thought I would give best case scenario.) Which in fact does not make any difference. I think the die shrink make heat dissipation awful. This is on a HDT-1283, in a P183 which has horrible air flow and needs a dust. Ambient is about 18C. Voltage 0.95 to 1.05. I have a the free 4 bin OC so it runs at 3.8 to 4.0.

prime95; large FFT; 4 mins has stabilized at 58-60C for the 'package'. fan hitting high of 1290rpm. These relatively lightweight direct touch coolers rely heavily on fan speed.

I would not worry about the idle temps but more the load tbh. Sounds fine to me.

That sounds like a normal temp

My stock Intel cooler would be lower than that. And quieter.

When you're spending 60 ish pounds on a cooler it should perform better than that.

Re: What should the idle temp be for an i5 3470 + H80i?

It does seem rather high for a idle temp. My load temps aren't that high. Seems more like temps from the stock cooler. Have you tried reseating the block/pump? What are load temps like?
