One of my HExus mates on FB just jeered at this, and thankfully it's all still sealed. So, is this a horrid enclosure? Recommend something better then please?

    Thanks!

    Best, M.

So, is the EX4 to be avoided?

There's a shop in the same building doing Qnap... thoughts?

Re: Picked up 4x 3TB WD Red Pro Drives and a NAS..but...!!

The WD and Synology units are a world apart in build and software. The WD units I have found to break easily, even when sat in someones lovely clean home being accessed once a week.

I use Synology kit at work (too many units to list but they are all from DS213s to RS2414RP+s with expanders) and they just work reliably, are fast and have the most awesome array of utilities available for them.

Don't touch QNAP with a bargepole! They have a distinct knack of not rebuilding after replacing a failed drive.

Both Synology & QNap do very good devices and that would be the way I would go if I wanted to replace my MicroServer with a dedicated NAS. As for models I've never looked that much into it but couple friends have the DS41x devices and say nothing bad about them.

Thanks, I'll keep the drives but tomorrow I'll head back with the WD and see if I can switch it to Synology.

Re: Picked up 4x 3TB WD Red Pro Drives and a NAS..but...!!

The WD enclosure was around 275 quid, how much does the Synology come to? I'd prefer shelling more for quality.

    Ta.

I've been eyeing up a DS415+ and haven't found many (if any) bad reviews of the unit.

Had a couple of their rack mounted units for various work projects and they've been brilliant.

Quick Google puts the DS415+ at circa £450.
