Could you quote where he tells you the ambient temperature please?

EDIT : I'm basically trying to discover which is the better CPU. And what do you make of Intel Pentium 4 "LGA775 64-Bit Prescott" 3.4F (800FSB) with HT Technology ?

am not a fanboy of either, as was said above, performance is the biggest issue.

EDIT 2 : What boards support this CPU? in 64-bit mode of course

if it was a powerful fan he could. thoeretically the wind chill factor could cause it to go lower.

put ur hand out of a car window doin 90mph it will be a lot colder than the ambient temp outside lol

I'm going by the 2 temps shown in his system tray - in normal order that is CPU first & system 2nd (& the system temp should be showing the air temp in the case which as far as the HSF is concerned is the ambient unless he is ducting external air direct to the HSF). Btw my DFI shows the same thing - that the CPU is colder than the ambient/system temp. Do I believe it - no way!

bouncin, remember that the cpu temp sensor isn't directly in the airstream so I don't think that the wind chill factor analogy works here.

Regardless of how cool and how much the clock, does anyone else believe that it's faster than an OC'd FX-55?

Look at the mouth on this noob!

The best benchmark I've seen yet for overall system and gaming performance is Futuremark's 3DMark2001. Intel can't even manage the front page (top 20) with a P4EE (a much faster CPU than the ones you are referring to) so you'll have to read your BS riot act somewhere else buddy.

PS: While you probably know how to drive it is doubtful that you've achieved enough in life to be able to actually afford a car.

Ok, back on topic: Debate??? 3 words...On-chip Memory Controller.

Oh, and you're very welcome donut.

    Thorsson:

Nothing's faster than an FX-55 at the moment.

After the top 5 specific chips I'll just refer to chip types with the greatest speed.

Here's the pecking order for gaming:

    FX-55 S939
    FX-53 S939
    FX-53 S940
    FX-51 S940
    3700+ S754

    AMD64 S939 1MB Cache
    AMD64 S754 1MB Cache
    P4EE
    AMD64 S939 512K Cache
    P4 S775 (Not S755)

    You get the idea.

So basically donut is comparing the 9th fastest to the 10th. Does anybody really care which is 9th and which is 10th?

If speed is important (regardless of application type) you want the AMD64 FX!

cmon dude dont be all nasty and pedantic.

this guy is new to the forums and at least he,s voicing his own findings and not something he read which is usually the norm.

and im not meaning too sound rude but why the hell is ur pi so slow in that system is that a 1mb calculation?

and ive found aquamark 3 to be a better system analyser than 01
although ur 01 score is pretty damn fine

Aquamark is more DX9 VC (like 03 and 05) whereas 01 is affected more by CPU.

    I wouldn't call 38.48 exactly slow. What's your score?

True if my RAM was better I could do a lot more in pifast. I prefer 3D benches though.

whats the big deal about a 4 ghz P4? I can get mine beond that! Its just the fact that cooling them is a pain and there life span drops to a third...

I agree we all know AMD has acceleration to power ie and small programs. But p4s rip them with their top speed, for a fair test you could run photoshop on a overclocked 3.2ghz (4ghz for me which melemini ovrclocked) then run it on a AMD and see how long it takes to load. fair test! AMD Junkies lol... as melemini said get proof there faster then we'll believe u!

Lol. Intel's strengths are known. But it's not in gaming.

I myself was an Intel FaNbOy! But I have seen the light! While an Guru clocked P4 such as mine tears AMD up in some benches it dosnt make it the better prossesor... And actualy AMD is starting to win in the multi media benches as well! Also, lets stop calling each other fanboys...

Calling that a war is a bit silly. The P4 is old tech. Adding a few pins and 64 bit instructions won't fool anybody. Time for Intel to spend some money on engineering instead of spending it on marketing hype to make complete noobs feel good about their Celerons. Sorry "BluThunda" , but the P4 gets it's arse handed to it by just about ANY AMD64 based chip.
