Question Bequiet Shadow Rock Slim install on AMD

Just wondering if anyone has installed this CPU cooler on an AMD system.

I bought one the other day and have come to install it and it seems it needs to go in an up-down orientation on AMD cpus. Is this right? This means it is far too wide and covers the memory slots. I bought it for its apparent slim design so I could use it with the tall Corsair Vengeance memory.

If anyone can point out where I'm going wrong, or confirm it can only go one way I would be very grateful.

    Cheers.

Re: Bequiet Shadow Rock Slim install on AMD

Checked many reviews, not many bothered with AMD platforms. A quote from one of the:

"Compatible with RAM just fine. No conflicts. But this is true only for the platform Intel. The mounting feet for AMD require turning cooler in the horizontal position, and the memory slots are no longer fit the bracket with high radiators."

    Good luck (?)

Thanks for taking the time Bonebreaker777, much appreciated.

Had a reply from bequiet support on their forum and indeed it can only be installed horizontally on AMD. Which is a shame cause it does seem to be a well made product. At least I wasn't being a numpty with the attempted install.

Back on the hunt for a slim quiet cooler then.

Return it to the vendor and choose one compatible with your "gear"?

alternatively, if you don't want to go through with the hassle of RMA, although RMA would work better.

    cable tie it on.

its what I did with mine back in march 2009, and it hasn't fallen off yet. had exact same problem you did with the memory being too tall. and I couldn't be bothered RMA ing.

fit the intel mounting bracket on upside down, then youve got holes for the cable ties to go through.

    like so.

it may be an option if the shop for whatever reason wont accept the return.

but yeah, I would try and return it first.

fyi mines a xigmatek sd1284 cooler.

Yeah, will return it as soon as possible. I didn't fully install as I saw the problem before screwing it all together.

Good work with the zip ties stevie lee.
