Thread: Nero doesnt pick up DVD-RW drive

    Also, another problem is that both of our PCs have stoped PLAYing DVD's properly, eather in the DVD-drives, or the DVD-RW - using powerdvd or mediaplayerclasisic it all works fine, except the the video is VERY slow (ie about 1frame per sec) and there no sound

    You sure you don't have some sort of virus or trojan?

    Have you tried putting one of the drives on its own cable and setting it to master?

    i dont think so, i have AVG free 7, as well as sygate, adware and spybot

    - all up to date, avg run tri-weekly, adware/spybot run weekly.

    also, i cant get windows media player to play videos (ie avi files)

    - could this be related?

    sounds like you may not have the right codecs or somethings deleted then try reinstalling media player 10 and get ac3filter

    CD drives use ATAPI, which uses "SCSI like" commands, which is probably where those errors are coming from.

    Make sure your motherboard's chipset drivers are up to date. Might be worth trying it on a cleanly setup machine just in case it's a software conflict of some sort.

    To make an old cd burner of mine work once (I forget what it was) I had to go and download an aspi driver from adaptec. Could that be the problem?
