Are you using the same version of Nero as you were before? Each update usually updates the list of compatible drives, maybe you're using an older version than you had installed before?

well, i got annoyed with that PC

    - so i took the drive out a stuck in the other pc and it works fine with the ver of nero that was already on (for the cd-rw's) [6.11 i think]

    - but if i try and use DVD-X Copy, that doesnt work, coming up with some error about missing CDdrive info ??

Sounds knackered. The PCB probably has a fault.

Well if 2 systems are having trouble with it, that would seem to be the likely answer. I've seen these odd problems with combo drives before, and tried everything and there's always something that doesn't work. A mate had one that would read but not write (most of the time - sometimes it worked) - after he upgraded his PC it got even more cranky, working at first and then suddenly having errors.

But there are other possibilities. Have you got the jumpers on correctly, is it sharing a cable or on its own, and if the latter have you got it the right way round?

Its on it with the HDD, the jumpers are a ok (its the slave, obviously)

-Also, when DVD-X Copy WAS working it ocationally came up with "scsi error" "please check cables and start again" - which was weird on an IDE drive, in a compleatly scsi free computer!!

most DVD+/-RW drives are around 60quid. Don't know about the DVD-RAM ones.

You shouldn't have it on the same cable as a HD as it will slow down the HD. What are the jumper settings (master/slave/cable select)?

Windows sometimes sees UltraDMA CD/DVD drives as SCSI. But it is sounding like you haven't got your drives set up correctly.

IMC metallica rule!! . . . .try using drive by itself turn it to the master and use different ide cable, If no luck scrap it and get a liteon or pioneer.
