Re: Just ordered my pc parts psu help

A quality 550w psu would run that and still have loads of spare power. The GTX 900 series cards are extremely power efficient and even in Sli a pair of 970's only pull around a max of 450w total system power at the wall. I wouldn't go for the Fractal Design, there are far better psu's available. Some suggestions:-

    Non-Modular
XFX Core Edition 550w £53.34. This is a Seasonic built unit with a single 12v rail of 528w. Review here.
Seasonic S12G-550 £64.99. This has a single 12v rail of 540w. Review here.
Antec Truepower Classic 550w £59.99. Seasonic built unit with 540w on a single 12v rail. Review here.
Antec Truepower Classic 650w £61.99 (price goes back up to £68.99 on Wednesday). Seasonic built unit with a single 648w 12v rail. Review here.
Superflower Golden Green HX 550w £59.99. Superflower are one of the worlds top OEM's and this unit has a single 12v rail of 546w.
XFX TS Series 650w £64.92. Seasonic built unit with 648w on a single 12v rail. Review here.

    Modular
EVGA Supernova GS 550w £67.86. Seasonic built unit with 540w on a single 12v rail. Review here.
XFX XTR 650w £69.98. Seasonic built unit with 648w on a single 12v rail. review here.
EVGA Supernova G2 650w £74.99. Superflower built unit with 649w on a single 12v rail. Review here.
Superflower Leadex Gold 550w £64.99 (price goes up to £71.99 on Wednesday). Single 12v rail of 550w. Review of the 650w version here. ***
Superflower Leadex Platinum 550w £71.99. Single 12v rail of 549.9w. Too new for reviews yet. ***

***Both of these units have bright led's were you plug the modular cables in and can't be turned off.

Re: Just ordered my pc parts psu help

take a look at the power efficiency vs load curves - make sure it is ok for idle loads as well as flat out gaming.
also take a look at noise vs load curves - again make sure it is not ramping up for gaming loads.

    NB to check :
    1) the current supply on each rail is ok for what you need (3.3V, 5V, 12V rails) These days the 12V is more what it's about, but some older boards/heavy PCI users may need more on the lower voltages too.
2)that the power rating stated is for sustained power not peak power. (It varies depending on the PSU but rule of thumb is flat-out max system load to be 90% of the units stated sustained power output for a good stab at best efficiency)

Evga supernova 650 imo would be good for you. Efficiency is better at around 50% load.
The more one seeks, the more one finds and so you realise there is a lot more to be found.

The EVGA Supernova G2 650w is basically the same unit with a different fan as the Superflower Leadex Gold 650w. Superflower builds that model for EVGA based on their own Leadex gold platform. Evga then gives it a longer warranty, 7 years compared to Superflowers 5 years.

I took overclocking into account when recommending 550w. Even when overclocked your pc will only pull around 300-320w at the wall.

Depends if you can live with those awful led's that you can't turn off. They are very bright. At the end of the day it's only a extra fiver for the EVGA and basically you won't have to buy a new psu for 7 years. I prefer the cables on the EVGA as well as they are all black with black plugs. The Superflower has black cables with a maix of black, blue and red plugs.

My own Seasonic S12 II 430W (which the XFX Core Edition is based on for example) is about 8 years old by now (it's the first revision that doesn't yet have the 80+ Bronze certification) and survived multiple CPU generations. Still works fine and is powering my OCed i7 2600k and a GTX970.
All I ever did to it was open it up and remove the dust every once in a while. Even the original dual ball bearing fan is still OK.
Superflower is also of very high quality though? They're right up there from what I've heard/read.
