    MemOK! Problem

So i recently downsized from my Fractal XL to a smaller Micro ATX Fractal Core 1000, to do this I also had to change my motherboard: I am no using an Asus M4A889T-M.

After re-assembling the pc with the new motherboard and case I went to boot it only to find the MemOK led flashing continuously.
When holding down the memok button it causes the light to stay on constantly and when released it begins to flash again. - This seems to be backwards from what should happen in the manual.

I've tried using different slots, a single stick of ram, resetting cmos and looseing motherboard screws; but i'm not at a loss - any other ideas would be handy!

I have two sets of Ram to use - 2x2gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer and 2x2gb Kington Hyper X - both working in previous system - but not listed on the QVL.

Any ideas of potential fixes would be great,

Can you boot into the BIOS and put in the correct setting for your memory? and adjust it to the correct voltages too ?

Have you contacted Asus? There was another thread on here about Asus MEM OK.

Try booting with a single stick of memory and putting settings in BIOS then add other stick.

    Re: MemOK! Problem

Sounds like a dead mobo. I had a problem with my M4A89GTD PRO where it wasnt accepting any ram, no display all I got was the the 4 beeps which meant faulty ram. I thought it was faulty ram, as it worked with one in briefly and the second module caused these problems so I rma'd the ram. OCZ sent me 4 sets before they said it must be motherboard. Sent motherboard back to scan got a new one.

Before you send it back, take it out of the case put it on the mobo box and turn it on and loosen your after market cooler if you have one . If you are still experiencing problems then RMA .

Just tried to test it on top of the motherboard box - turned it on then saw smoke coming from below the RAM slots
Strong smell of burning so i turned it off

Will have to RMA it I guess; which is a shame as I move into uni next week and wont have my PC

Thanks for the suggestion - how fast was the RMA for you?

However same problem minus the smoke...

Worth just buying some new RAM? or could it be a problem with something else?

    Re: MemOK! Problem

Can you borrow a stick of approved RAM from someone just to check that it works?

It does sound like your RAM is not compatible.

Have you tried contacting either Kingston or Crucial for advice? I got a great response from Kingston's technical department when I made an enquiry with them some months ago.

Have you tried with a single stick of ram as per my earlier suggestion?

Hi, sorry I didn't reply to your earlier post - yes, I've tried each stick individually in each slot.

@Sputnik - I haven't got access to any other ram unfortunatley. I'm going to put it all back into the old motherboard and see if it works - meanwhile ill get in touch with Kingston

    Thanks

    Re: MemOK! Problem

    Hi there,

It would be really helpful to know if you were able to determine whether it was the RAM or the motherboard that was having the problems? Could you please let me know as soon as possible? Does anybody else know if this motherboard has problems with its MEMok feature?

    Re: MemOK! Problem

I suspect the bad mobo fried the RAM.
