    Amd Fx-51

    Hi,

I'm having some trouble with my new CPU AMD FX-51.
I have installed it on a ASUS SK8V Board (wich is the only board i know for it)
with one Kingston 512 MB Memory module and... nothing no boot, no image on the screen or any post message.
Someone have told me that i only should use ECC Memory, but i'm not really sure of that.
Can someone tell me if i'm missing something ??

    Thanks

You need to use registered memory with any socket 940 board/processor. ECC is optional, but it won't post with unregistered RAM.

Yep! The memory i'm using is not "registered", i'll try to change it for another wich is.

If you want to make the best of it's capabilities you really want to use dual channel memory.

And if you're planning on overclocking, I dont think that board has a PCI/AGP lock, so any increase in MHz will be transferred to the AGP & PCI bus.

It still overclocks quite well. The SK8V is a monster board. Use two identical DDR modules, and yes they must be registered and ECC is a good idea as well. The non-ECC registered memory doesn't seem to perform as well as the ECC in the case of the Corsair PC3200 TWINX modules.

Many thanks to all of you,
i'll try that, thing is that there are so many memory types nowdays that i'm never really sure wich one is the most apropriate for each CPU, and i'm not quite sure as well of what is dual channel memory ( i supose it's a pair of DDR modules )

To run dual channel you need a pair of modules, yes. What you need is one or more '184 pin Registered DDR DIMMS', at either PC2100, PC2700 or PC3200 speed (I.E. DDR266MHZ, 333MHz or 400MHz). What you really want is 2x512MB Registered ECC PC3200 DIMMs.

    Like these, for example
