Intel ICH10R vs Marvell PCIe 9128
Hi there,
I am having a problem deciding which SATA controller I should use for my new Samsung 850 EVO.
I have a choice between Intel ICH10R controller (3Gb/s) and Marvell PCIe 9128 (6Gb/s). I'm including some screenshots below from AS SSD Benchmark (the difference is marginal).
Just in case I've got a Rampage III Extreme board from ASUS.
That's going to be my primary system drive running Windows 10.

Thanks!

Re: Intel ICH10R vs Marvell PCIe 9128
I had a similar decision and Intel was my preference - just a more stable driver/controller, and better in the small/random metrics that make the most difference to feel.
If you were doing a lot of sequential transfers (not that usual for a system partition) then maybe go with the marvel. For for a system drive I preferred Intel.
Re: Intel ICH10R vs Marvell PCIe 9128
Intel; THey have better performance consistency and are far more reliable. (and have better 4K Performance) They also tend to be less of a pain to dos tuff like boot a raid on...
Re: Intel ICH10R vs Marvell PCIe 9128
look at 4k performance, if you're not working with video editing software you won't be able to pull burst speeds often enough
Re: Intel ICH10R vs Marvell PCIe 9128
Has anyone tried the modded bios from here?
Does it improve random 4k speeds with the Marvell controller? Also, would SLIC mess with my Windows licence if I have a legit copy?
Re: Intel ICH10R vs Marvell PCIe 9128
I've decided to stick with Intel as suggested. I got this modded BIOS from this thread here. It's working pretty well so far. Also, SLIC stuff doesn't mess with your licence if you have a legit copy in case anybody is worried. The speeds that I'm getting are identical to the speeds from the OP.
Re: Intel ICH10R vs Marvell PCIe 9128
Intel vote here too. Makes for easier driver updates as well :P
