My PC wont boot.
I put the FSB on my Athlon 2800+ Barton (Winfast K7NCR-18D Pro) up to 200 (dumb I know) whilst moving the multiplier down and now my pc wont boot - the PC switches on but the PC makes long beeping sounds and the monitor says there is no signal.
Ive tried resetting the bios via the cmos jumper, even tried taking my gfx card out and back in, but it doesn’t work
The m/b doesn’t have a agp/pci lock (I don’t think anyway), so have I fried my video card? Please help!!
if u've definatly reset ur bios, (unplug all power, remove the battery and then move the jumper across for about 10 secs)
and still no luck then u could of killed ur cpu, im no expert but its worth, if possible to try a different cpu or try ur's in another system...
could always try the old hold insert down when switching on also... never know, worth a shot
try removing the battery / jumper for a few minutes, not just seconds. Worked for my k7s5a. If it's still no go, it's possible you damaged your cpu/memory/gpu :x Then u should replace the components 1 by 1 and see if it works imo
Ur motherboard is dead. Had same with my friend his mobo was beeping since starting and it was DOA
Can you give us an indication of how the beeps sound? i.e. one long beep followed by two short ones etc. This will give an indication of the problem. iirc constant long beeps is an overheated or dead cpu.
Your mobo will take a fsb of 200 but I doubt that the 2800 was happy with it. :(
First I would try swapping the gfx card for another one to see if you blew the gfx card. If not, have you got a spare socket a cpu to put in.
The beeps do actually mean something :) It should tell you what they mean in you manual. This will narrow it down to CPU/RAM/Video Card or the motherboard.
Look up on the net for the beep codes for your bios make. Normally if its beeping something is borked.
Also when you do a bios reset by battery removal or jumper you can leave it plugged in but either turn off the PSU or turn the switch off at the plug.
I tried a new gfx card, it isnt that, so Im guessing its the cpu? I cant see how it could be the mb, as it is can take a 200FSB CPU anyway (3200+)
ah well, will need to go shopping for a cheap cpu to make sure :(
As previously mentioned, what is the pattern of the beeps? You can find out on the internet what they correspond to e.g. RAM, graphics, CPU, etc.
It's beeping cos it needs more voltage.
I would prefer it if he got the PC working at default bios settings before trying to increase the vcore voltage. Increasing voltage willy nilly will certainly lead to more problems.Quote:

If it's an Award BIOS then that means bad memory or badly seated memory. Take out any memory you have - put one stick back in DIMM 1, making sure it is correctly inserted and clips in. If that doesn't work try a different stick if you have one.
yep turned out to be a memory problem, when I removed the memory one of the dimm slots had some white powder on it (dunno where that came from, I dont use my pc to snort coke off :crazy: ) and moved it to another slot, it was fine. dunno if the slot is bust or what, will check it tomorrow. Phew! Wont cost be anything :D
