Give your volc7 a clean out.
Get all the dust from out the fins, reapply the thermal grease, and it'll knock a bit more off that

ooh, damn, that's a good point, I need to check my bank balance and order some arctic silver and a better HSF to cool this beastie down a bit better than it's doing at the moment.. (45c Idle - pretty much the same as crapshot actually, only I've only got a stock AMD hsf and fan..)

/me skidaddles off to hsbc's website..

Don't worry too much about specific temps as they are only there as a rough guide, if you're stable then you're stable. Of course if you want to o/c more or alternatively simply run quieter / cooler...

Volcano11 is a decent step up and cheap, esp if you have Volc7 rather than Volc7+. Zalman Flower ALL COPPER are meant to be great coolers and VERY quiet, I haven't had the pleasure though. People seem to like Thermalright AX-7/SLK800, Alpha PAL 8045/8942 and Swift MCX462+. For a fan the Smart Fan 2 is very good & it's v.nice to have the adjustability, goes nice on a Thermalright SLK-800 (great HS and easy to mount). Vantec 's Aeroflow is significantly less expensive than either of the above heatsink + fan combinations. It uses the innovative TMD (tip magnetic driven) 70mm fan from Y.S. Tech. Some of these HS req more room or holes around the CPU so be sure to check.

    Anyone used the aero7+?

Oh, and Arctic silver have a new compound out called "Ceramiqué" - had a quick look about and from the 5 or 6 sites I looked at at worse it's the same as AS3 and at best it's 5degC cooler under load than AS3..

Oh, and the SLK900 looks like a right beast

sk-7 = cheap as good as slk800, and slk800 is imo for the price better than slk900...

u wont get much atall in overclocking fomr a different h/s, unless ur current one is made of alu...

temps dont matter, theyll be 10-20*c wrong anyway due to where the thermistor is mountedand the mobo giving wrong readings.

unless ur unstable dont bother getting a new one, and if u r unstable, dont clock so far, its not worth the moneh.

only get new one if u cant cope with the niose.

well i've had a far few different fans over the past year. at the moment i have the Alpha PAL 8045 with a delta SHE fan. that was an upgrade from a global win CAK 4-88T - very quite but the alpha knocks a few more degree's off

    How about a Coolermaster

They sell for less than £8 rated upto XP 3200

I have a Barton 2500 @ 2300Mhz without any case cooling and you can hardly hear them, but if you wish you can change the 80mm for a high flow one.

Then spend the other £32 on something else (Beer)

If you feel like spending any more take a look at Thermalright SK-7 at Tekheads Extreme Cooling £20.56 Inc with free delivery, you will need to buy a 80mm fan though.

    Look at the results Here

Rated as the 4th best heatsink just behind the 800 and 900

i'd say the aero7+ is just as good or better than an SK-7 (with a 20dba fan) - but if you put a louder fan on the SK-7 then that would probably be better, but comparing the aero7 and sk-7, there's not much difference in amount of copper in my opinion.

I would recommend the SLK-800 for an AMD Athlon processor.

I'd say go for the Aero 7 Lite instead of the Aero 7+. Apparently they are getting better results from the Lite than the + which is interesting. Plus you save about £20 between the two

Oh and if you choose to use AS Ceramique, make sure you follow the instructions that are on the website as they will help drop the temperatures even more. IE impregnate the heatsink with the paste first as it will allow for more better heat dissipation

Hehehe well I just checked out the price of the 7+ vs 7 Lite on your best friend in the world's web site, OCUK (LOL! ) and they are selling the 7+ for £31.61 and the 7 Lite at £17.57
