I doubt you would never get 3 gig on stock cooling.
so i thought, although reading p4 articles they all seem to be of the type that you can go far without increasing voltage, but this just seems a little far off to me,
ebay, whatever will they scam next?
I had a p4 1.8Ghz northwood that would do 2.6ghz on air, so I do think it is possible.
I thought overclocking a recent P4 stepping to 3.0GHz+ was pretty much a given? I've seen D1 stepping mobile P4s on ebay before so I don't see why it would be BS. Add in the fact that the mobile chips (like the XP-Ms) are potentially the 'pick of the bunch' or at least BETTER than the average chip... I didn't think a 250MHz FSB for the 865/875 chipset was a problem either?
Just thought I'd add that just because I'm saying it's possible - or even probable - that a good stepping 1.8Ghz chip could get up to 3.0Ghz - it doesn't mean it's necessarily a good idea to buy this one - he could be talking BS or could have tortured the chip with far too many volts and it might be firmly on it's last legs. Could be fine too but you should expect a 'YMMV' when buying anything on a promise of it overclocking to a set level.
Even if you COULD run that chip at 3GHz+ it still would get trounced badly by even the slowest A64. MHz=squat unless you are comparing apples to apples.
