Is It Worth Up the Upgrade

    Hi lads

Thinking of upgrading my old abit nf7 sv2.00 with Barton running at 2300mhz to one of the new winchesters 3000.
Will it be worth it from a cost point.
New MB and CPU swap over already have a heat sink, a quick look around shows me about £200 to £250. should do it.

IMO-no but its your own choice. THe question is what speed does you PC have to be?do you have to have uptodate tech at all times? if not why not just ind a cheap xp3200+? or not upgrade

Actually it depends on what you use the computer for and also if it's purely a CPU/mobo change, or whether you're going to upgrade anything else as well.

a baton running @ 2.3ghz will be quite a bit faster than 3000+ A64 at most things. You dont list your other components? perhaps more ram, a better graphics card or some other upgrade would provide a lot more bang for your buck

In general "upgrading" is never worth it although there are exceptions to this rule.

I believe you are asking if an overclocked Winchester will be significantly fast than your present setup. The answer is YES! However, depending on how you use your computer you may or may not notice a significant improvement. Whether something is "worth it" or not is a value judgement only you can make, but yes the Winney will be much more powerful if properly configured.

Yes stormpc hit it on the head. So how much can you overclock em i have seen 2.4mhz to be common on Air. one problem they are multi locked so only the fsb is the way to go which also means some very good ram pc4400 at a later date i hope. Also will the multi being fixed at 9 if am right on a amd win 64 3000 make much of a diffrence say to a 3200 with a multi of 10 when it comes to Overclocking.
