Replacement headset for Roccat Kave 5.1

    Hi folks,

I have had a Roccat Kave 5.1 analogue headset for 5 years and it really is long in the tooth now unfortunately and the microphone has just died.

I have always found the sound quality and surround sound to be absolutely excellent but a number of issues made the headset annoying to use such as:

    - The large, in-line remote was stupidly close the left ear cup and therefore often had to sit of my lap
    - The cable was always getting itself tangled and knotted together
    - The microphone had zero noise cancellation and picked up everything!

I really want another 'real' 5.1 headset as I favour excellent positioning over raw sound quality although I am open to any ideas and will consider a range of different budgets.

I don't really like software surround sound solutions as I find the sound very distorted and unrealistic.

I also have an Auzentech Hometheatre HD soundcard that I really would like to continue using rather than using USB headsets.

I'm thinking of getting the SpeedLink Medusa 5.1 "True Surround" analogue headset from here:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/speed...t-for-pc-black

I used to have an original Speedlink medusa that I really liked except that the centre channel was devoid of any bass - I'm not sure if this has improved in future versions or not.

Many thanks in advance for any help / advice

Hi terminator. I'd be very interested to follow your post as I am in a similar position. I have a couple of pairs of good Gigi phones, and would like a decent surround set purely for gaming.
    I'd like (I think)
True 5.1 with a convincing soundstage
    Wireless
    Good build
    Good comfort

I'm not sure I'm going to find the above ypthough!

Frankly I don't care if they sound rubbishy with music, but I do like rich bass and sweet treble - so I really don't know if what I want exists........

The Razer, Asus and roc cats all look fairly plasticky and reviews are very mixed. But I'd appreciate your thoughts on 5.1 in cans as I've never tried it!

Re: Replacement headset for Roccat Kave 5.1

hello, i had the kave in the past but couldnt get on with it so changed it to a coolermaster sirus
    http://gaming.coolermaster.com/en/products/audio/sirus/

has a usb sound card or you can remove that and plug in directly, good headset, good sound and lighter than the kave
can pick them up quite cheap now.

I have now got a hyper x cloud and it is amazing, not true 5.1 but really comfy and easy to use
