    Crashing to desktop

Why oh why does my comp crash to the desktop when i install another 512Mb stick of ram giving a total of 1Gb. I have tried 2 different sticks now and still it crashes.I have an SS51G with a 2.26B cpu and 2 sticks of 512mb Samsung DDR PC2700. If i set the mem to safe mode in bios it works fine but as son as i put it in normal mode it crashes.

The SS51G can exhibit this behaviour is running two sticks of RAM with RAM speed @ 333MHz & if using an ATI Radeon GFX card.

I am guessing that the fix is to buy one stick of ram mate at 1GB

Depends on your luck - go to one stick & you might be able to run @ 333MHz. I've seen sticks of the same make give differing results.
If you use 266MHz RAM then I've found you can run really agressive memory timings & CAS2.
I have found that the difference in performance in the real world, between 266MHz & 333MHz is undetectable. Even with benchmarks such as 3D Mark 2003 - I get a difference of less than 100 points (3%) when running @266MHz compared to 333MHz. (With both RAM set at the same memory speeds). With aggressive timings @ 266MHz, you can often get better results than 333MHz at 'normal' memory timings.

    Hope this helps.
