    Abit IS7 won't boot :(

I've gotten a new set up apart from the hard drive which is my old Samsung 120gb. But for some reason when I switch the computer on it doesn't seem to boot properly, the parts just turn on and start to buzz and what not but my monitor doesn't receive a signal so I don't know if it is properly botting. If anyone has an idea why it is doing this i'd be grateful. The rig is in a Thermaltake Tsunami if that counts for anything.

    Thanks.

    This is the rig:

    p4 Northwood c1 2.66ghz - Vantec Aeroflow
    Abit IS7
    Samsung PC2100 512mb
    XFX Geforce 6600GT AGP

Does the computer beep once? If it doesn't, then it isn't booting correctly. Try taking out everything that's not essential, like optical drives and hard drives.

It isn't beeping at all. I'm not sure if it is because i don't have a speaker on my mobo or it just isn't booting at all. I've taken everything out but the CPU-HSF, GPU and RAM but still no dice. Trying the motherboard on the box it came in doesn't work either .

Does it beep if you take the RAM out? If it doesn't, I think there's something wrong with your motherboard.

Also, do you have any components that you can swap in?

The HSF kinda drowns out any chance of a beeping noise if it even makes one. I'll have a go without the CPU see if that makes a beep?

All I have spare is a graphics card which i have already tried.

The RAM would be easier than the CPU, and should have the same effect. If you take the CPU off, you have to reseat the heatsink and reapply the thermal paste.

And it must be an incredibly loud fan to drown out any beeping - my Volcano 12 is noisy at max, but I can still hear the beeps easily.

This is going to be awkward with the Thermaltake Tsunami case as it does not have a speaker. I ran into this problem when I put my PC together yesterday. I have an Asus motherboard that can talk to you as it boots. I connected the motherboard audio line out to my speakers to make sure that I could hear the POST tests. This is one of the problems of the otherwise excellent Tsunami case. You're just not going to hear a beep as the case has no speaker (and 4-pin case speaker connector for the motherboard.

Also, does your card need extra power (i.e. a separate power feed from the PSU)?

Yes it does, it has it's own 4 pin molex leading to it.

I've tried using my old MX440 but that didn't seem to work.

Where is it? I don't appear to have one! Is it part of the bundle of cables for the front switches and LEDs? Alternatively, where is the actual speaker on this case?

Why do you need to connect to anything? To clarify, I am talking about the basic speaker that beeps, not onboard sound. Most recent motherboards (to my knowledge) have speakers that beep, as well as connections for ones on the case.

This one doesn't have a speaker, or i doesn't seem to have one anyway. There is an Indicator Header near the power etc. called SPK which is supposed to connect to a speaker on the case, unfortunately the Tsunami doesn't have one .

You've probably tied this but have you switched off the power completely and re-seated the graphics card? My machine didn't boot first time as my graphics card was only half in.

Are you connecting via VGA or DVI? If it's DVI can does your monitor require the input source (VGA or DVI) to be manually selected?

I have tried reseating all the components.

It is DVI, but there is an adaptor i got with the card to go from DVI to VGA. I'll check my monitor now.

    Nada on the monitor.
