    Too Hot?

    I got an Intel Pentium 4 2.80GHz Northwood A clocked to 3.36GHz.
With Prime95 running it sits at about 67 degrees, that's with all my cooling turned up full (all fans) and my side panel off.

What would you lot say is the max temp for a P4 Northwood?
    Cheers,

Northwoods have thermal protection. When they get to a certain temperature they slow down alot so they can cool down. No point in having high clock speeds if its thermal throttling.

Thats bit high m8.I'm @ about 36°C idle these days (graphics card heated it up a lot) and 55°C max load, I've only ever seen it @ 55 once and that wa stress testing and in summer 37°C outside.

Is the mobo temp reading reliable? I take no notice of mine because i think (hope) its way out. It reported around 65-70 on air and 50-60 on water, thats with an A64 3200 clawhammer. But as ive never had any issues with stability etc i just let it get on with it and say what it likes...

I must admit that i wouldnt be very comfortable with a temp of 70 degrees, but as shogun said about northwoods and thermal protection i guess you're probably not going to kill the cpu. I would have thought that would have severely limited any overclock though? Try asking other people with same cpu and mobo what experiences they've had?

For a northwood (which should come with a pretty good P4 hsf) thats way to hot. 40°C should be idle temps on a 3.36 OC, i guess it all depends on ur towers got good ventillation etc.

Damn thats pretty toasty! I would say anything under 55c is ideal and anything over that needs looking into tbh....

    What cooler is it?

a northwood can take any where from 80C to 90C... But thermals will kick in way before that! If you not sure weather its activating for you find a app that measures CPU through put...

I'm not sure if you mean me or the thread starter, but I've got the cooler that came with my CPU running at 65C. I'd rather not change it though unless there REALLY is a problem (which I haven't encountered yet).

I meant thread starter but 65c really is too hot imho even if they are rated at xxxc temp. I'm surprised you haven't had any crashes
