When ever i have bought generic ram its always been good quality.

I would only be worried about dodgy stuff you can buy on ebay.

A friend of mine bought 100 CDRs off someone for £10 they were utter rubbish
the like of i have never seen before. Yet I paid £10 for a 100 off lordofthedeals.co.uk
and they were great. I dont think any of the main computer sellers would buy ram
and accept it if it was really that poor.

Ive got the same mobo and chip as you and i run 1x512mb of kingmax ddr500 and that runs ok, dont know if you've used the mobo before but dont expect any decent overclocking out of it!!

I'd be interested in that - how easy is very easy? Without that and just using fsb overclocking i couldnt get my clawhammer stable any faster than 246fsb with ddr500 under a vapoXE, so it could be just me thats rubbish i guess!
