    Question Microdirect SB75G2 bios version?

Anyone bought a SB75G2 V2 from Microdirect lately? I nearly bought one today but they could not confirm the bios/bom version. From reading here it seems I need bom 15 to ensure the latest incarnation of the PC.

They did give me the serial no and another no from the barcode area off one of them:

    Serial no
    b75g004371000107

    bar code no
    811686000297

    Anyone able to decrypt???

    Cheers

    Hullo,

Well, just to prevent any confusion; it looks like you've got the bios version confused with with BOM number. The BOM is basically the hardware revision of the board. If you want to run a Prescot CPU above 2.8 you'll need BOM 14 or above (think highest revision is 15 I think). Take a look here for some more concise info.

    Now to answering your question
If you take a look here you can see how to decode the BOM number. From the serial you posted I'd guess that Micro Direct have given you slightly duff info; either that or it's a BOM 4. I bought a SB75G2 from them a month ago and that was BOM 15.

    Hope that Helps,
    -Bob

Many thanks bob, I have most of the bits for the build, and after originally planning on a Prescott have now bought a 3.0 Northwood. I was going to use an older Asus nvidea geforce 4 ti 4800se 128 vivo or possibly an ATI radeon 9700 128, although the latter may be faulty through overclocking, not sure at the mo.

I cant decide between the sb75g2v2 or sb61g2v3.

Which one would give me better performance as a htpc? I know the chipsets are different but is the sb75 really worth the extra cost?

    Thanks again!
