    Building my first SFF system.

    Hi All.

I'm looking at building my first SFF system, to replace my current desktop.

The components I intend to use are:

    SB81P
    P4 3.4 Prescott
Radeon X800 Pro ( would prefer the Gainward Silent models, but probably too bulky )
    1Gb Corsair matched PC3200
    Hitachi 250Gb SATA ( Barracudas quiter ? )
    NEC Dual Layer DVD drive

My main aim to make a system that I can play CS:Source on, but it needs to be as quiet as possible.

    My questions are:

Does anyone see any potential problems with this setup ?
Do Shuttle supply SATA power/data cables or will I need to buy them too ?
Does the Shuttle ship with a HSF, or do I need to buy one and if so, what would you recommend.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I'm not too convinced that i'd want to put a 3.4 Prescott in a shuttle, from what i've experienced these chips pump out far too much heat for my liking.

If you want quiet as possible you might want to consider doing some changes to the fans provided as stock. Yes you get HSF, in the form of Shuttle's ICE cooler which is superb.

If you do choose to go 3.4 Prescott, then make sure you've got some good Artic Silver compound to ensure you get a good contact between the CPU and the heatsink.

I'm not sure whether that model comes with sata power cables or not. I'm sure it will come with some data cables tho.

The newer P4 shuttles are designed to cope with the cpu equivalent of hot lava. The SB81P should be fine. Looks like a good setup. All of the cables will be included and be routed through the shuttle already.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I'll definitely be modding the Shuttle to ensure it's as quiet as possible.....

I keep hearing the Barracudas are probably the quietest SATA drives around, so I'll probably plump for one of those.

I'll report back any findings, once it's all up and running
