    Police grab 60,000 AMD CPUs
    By Tony Smith
    Published Tuesday 4th January 2005 10:25 GMT
Taiwanese police have seized some 60,000 allegedly dud AMD processors believed to have been made ready for sale as fully functioning product.

However, over 1m re-marked chips may already have entered European and Asian sales channels.

    ----

No doubt these will be on ebay already.....

Well, mine works ok, and not too hot either, it idles at 68' c.

Just kidding! ... that said, it does actually have a healthy temperature but is resistant to even the most minor overclock...

Don't want anyone getting one of these. It's gonna be a kick in the teeth for AMD.
I'm sure AMD will help those that are hit by this... Possibly?

If your not sure, run Prime95 at standard clocks, with the memory on standard timings.

If it craps out, its some ground to take it back.

What a strange thing to do... manufacture fake CPU,s How hard is this going to be trace, there are probably under 200 facilities in the world capable of manufacturing this type of component.

Well the article says "dud" so I amgine they are real AMD chips that have failed testing although that doesnt explain how they got on the market .

They would have to be the same socket though. You couldnt rebadge a XP as an A64 and expect anyone to take it seriously

i guess - remember them xp2500s that did xp3200 guranteed on stock volts? maybe theyve been modified and flogged on for more ?

i saw an underground program in the makings before, it allowed u to change the multi on a amd cpu permanantly, but obviously, highly illegal and dangerous, why i didnt bother trying it on mine incase it blew it up or killed it in some way - it must be possible, im sure amd can do it, maybe someones done it ?
