I would go for option 2, the Pentium 4 needs a high FSB for best performance, so the A64 is the way to go. It is also pretty future proof for longhorn/XP 64 etc.

I just had a quick check round the offices. We have PC's running P4 3.0's & shuttles running A68 2800's (all running @ stock) & going on BOINC processing results only, the P4's are way ahead. Gaming tho, I'd go AMD every time.

Hmm. Time for rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishey to balance it up. P4 day to day computing tasks vs amd64 for games! I would still go for the a64 personally. No chance of getting a 939 board and say a a64 3000?

Hmm maybe I am wrong then. What FSB do A64s run at?

like everyone else said: P4 for encoding, A64 for games

blimey that was quick, thanks all
i was leaning towards the A64, it was £20 more than the PIV though.

I'd prefer a 939 setup menthel, just for future proofing, but as they're ex work machines and at £120 for the bundle you cant beat it with a big stick
