Kind of OK.
I suspect an R9 380 and make do with a Pentium for now would be way better and being cheaper should allow you a proper 8GB 2 stick ram pair.
If you're spending the money on a 6600k and Z170 board then I wouldn't skimp on the memory or SSD. I'd spend the small amount extra for 2x4GB DDR4-2666 and a 240GB SSD.
Would agree, but I would rather go for 1 x 8GB DDR4 module instead. As for a SSD, not sure if it is essential. Depends if you can cough up £45-50 (OCZ Trion or Crucial BX200).Quote:

Im distraught between getting a skylake an an haswell refresh 4690k but with both motherboards z97 and z170 same price. Is it best for skylake now Get an 8gb so you can upgrade to 16gb easier
Also does anyone have. Link for a skylake on DDR3L compared to DDR4? As there are z170 ddr3l motherboards out there
There's no reason to go for Z97 or DDR3L unless it's a lot cheaper. The newer tech doesn't have any downsides.
So I'd go Skylake and DDR4-2666.

I see lots of people mentioning 4gb as a problem but I was running a r9 270 2gb with one stick of 4gb corsair ram and I was running a lot of games whilst having a browser open on my second monitor with no issues!
Battlefield3, dota 2, csgo, diablo 3 no issues whatsoever with 4gb!
