this is actually a really stupid newbie quesion, and thank you so much for giving me help on this one.

currently i've got a system spec like this:
    ASUS A8N-SLI
    AMD ATHLON 64 3000+ S939
    ANTEC SLK1650B w/ 350w ATX 12V
    MAXTOR DIAMONDMAX 10 SATA 160Gb
    ASUS EAX300/TD 128Mb
    CRUCIAL 512MB DDR400 PC3200 RAM CL=3 (CT6472Y40B)

i've been told that the A8N-SLI and the winnie 3000 is great for OC, i just wonder with the current RAM i have, does the RAM hinder my rig's OC ability alot? and with this RAM will i still be able to OC it to 2.5GHz like others? or should i go get a new set of RAM?

thank you so much again for your help

Have you tried oc'ing with your current RAM? If so, how far have you gotten?

My best guess, if you want to try to get the max HTT (FSB) out of that RAM, a good start would be to relax the timings to 3, 4, 4, 10 with 2T command and up the voltage to at least 2.8v. With those settings, you'll probably find out what your max will be, but to a cost of lower performance with tighter timings.

Your milage might vary, so play around with the timings and voltages to see what your max, best performing and stable oc is.

Yes it definitely will hinder your overclocking. The 3000+ has a 9 multiplier max so you really need fast memory to handle the high FSBs. You can use a divider (really a multiplier on A64s) which will allow your CPU to run higher MHz but you'll still be losing bandwidth.
