    bluray dvd vs htpc bluray

Hi all this doing my head-in which to get stand-alone Blu-ray or htpc Blu-ray

I know you get all the goodies with the stand-alone internet, Netflix so on.
htpc you just get player and you need to get software my point is which is better for upscaling and 4k because I don't want a lot of equipment would prefer htpc Blu-ray thanks

    .... what?

Are you trying to decide between a standalone bluray player (with smart apps) or an HTPC with a bluray drive?

In that case it depends on your usage. If you have a lot of bluray discs and haven't got a NAS to store them on, then the standalone player with apps sounds ideal for you (I've found that an optical drive in my HTPC is quite loud at full pelt, the drives in standalone players only spin as fast as they need to). If you have a lot of media on your local network storage, or want something like Kodi/Plex to stream from, then an HTPC might suit, but they are more expensive and fiddly to get set up how you want.

Upscaling out of the box you are probably best with the standalone player, or leave it to your TV to do it.

Re: bluray dvd vs htpc bluray

Hi thanks for info can i tell you what i'am trying to do is get htpc setup through my surround amp with mission fronts and Acoustic Energy back speakers the other week I tried a movie through lg burner on power dvd 15 the movie was slightly out of sync with voice then I tried windvd 11 pro the other week different movie from series (the hobbit ) was happy windvd 11 pro but would like better picture and colour that's why i'am asking about Blu-ray because I know it has better picture and colour quality would it be worth investing in htpc drive or standalone player i would'nt be storing dvd on a nas.

It does sound like the standalone player would be better for you, HDMI straight out to your amp and dedicated hardware specifically built for the job of decoding video and audio. The HTPC would only be a serious consideration (in my opinion) if you were streaming from a nas or doing some light gaming.
