WANTED : Quiet fan

I have a Xigmatek Thor's hammer cooler


I am after a 12cm fan that is fluid bearing, has a high CFM and a low db. Any ideas ?

I did a bit of research and this seems ideal to me

I think for that you'll want one with a high static pressure (mm/H20) rather than a high airflow (CFM)... I also think 60CFM is pretty naff and that particular seller needs to spell-check a bit more.

Consider something like the Noctua NF-F12 fans, the Blacknoise NB e-Loop series or the EK Varder fans.
Decide also if you want more cooling performance, more silence, or a balance between the two.

I'd consider one of the 140mm fans that have fittings for 120mm - extra flow around the edge of a tower stack is also beneficial for cooling and silence.

I've had some success with Noctua fans at lower RPMs and the weird looking be quiet ones like this:

Depends what you call quiet really - as per my post in your other thread it's mostly about RPMs though you can minimise noise by soft mounting and removing obstructions such as grills and filters (if you can live with dust busting your PC)

Noctua with one of their inline resistors to slow the fan further.

Just to throw a curve ball in there, I really rate the high end Be Quiet Silent Wings fans. I got one of the Black Rock coolers for my CPU and even when its spun up and blasting a load of air, its still impressively quiet. I also have some of the 120mm Noctua PWM Redux fans in the case and they are loads noisier. I know the Redux ones are the older models, but I dont think the newer models are THAT much better.

To throw another curve.... erm... perhaps a spinner into the mix, if you are looking to go for something more 'bargain' then the Arctic F12 is a fairly decent punt. For a 3rd of the cost of the high end options it has pretty impressive acoustics for the airflow.

Inbetween these there are things like Phanteks and Akasa Apache that are worth considering.

like all Noctua, they are really quiet as I run a near silent water cooled games rig that is drowned out by my gen8 microserver!

I'd go for a 14cm fan for the reason Kalniel states. The offer above bears investigating, as the Noctua NF-P14 is an excellent fan.

Any fan with a larger height/width than the heatsink it's supposed to cool.

There's quite a few. I use Thermalright TR TY-140s. You may need to check clearance if you have tall RAM close to the socket and a large tower cooler, but they do an amazing job.
