Oh I wish, i have a full system sitting here, waiting for one of these, some people are even reporting end of January! i can't wait that long, I'll go back to P4 again if I have to wait that long as my current P4 kit is already sold.

You might be able to get a Newcastle but Winchesters (3500+) are probably going to be in stock around February according to a few retailers I contacted. I may just bite the bullet and get a 3200+ Winnie instead, there's a few of those floating around.

I'm also on the lookout for one. You could always resort to shops. There is a great little PC shop near me that has some. I think I'm gona just get mine from there.

I too have been checking high and low for a stock of the 3500+ A64 Wincester... Can I be a potential dumba** here, but being new to AMD, I have to check:

I realise there are two cores of A64 available..
    The Winchester and Newcastle.

The Newcastle is based on 130nm process and sold as 3000/3200/3500 etc, whilst the Winchester is based on 90nm process and sold with a '+' in the naming convention? Is this correct?

If so, a product listed as: "AMD Athlon 64 3500+ / 2.2 GHz processor, Socket 939, L2 512 KB" would def be a Winnie?

    Many thanks for your patience,
    S.

shouldn't really tell you this cos I have yet to have my order confirmed (lol)

But overclockers.co.uk has them in stock as of this morning according to thier website, and seeing as when I was in there on tuesday and ordered att eh counter they used that to verify stock as well it means they got em. Good job too as I was about to go out and buy a P4 combo instead lol

be warned, its not uber cheap though, I think they know they are one of like one who has stock.

the main reason I changed is people I know have had major stability problems with their AMD 64 rigs, now this may just be them, but to be honest, no where is quoting stock till the end of January and the technology I had already bought would have been out of date by then (!!!) and I need stabilty, so I went for a 775 P4 3.4...

My Winnie 3500+ runs SETI BOINC 24/7 at 2600MHz and completes work units in less than 90 minutes on average. Never had a single crash. The reason some have problems with the A64 is that they don't know what they are doing. There is more of a learning curve with the A64 because it is truly newer technology. The S775 P4 is just more of the same. Your P4 is a great chip for crunching but it can't touch the Winchesters in most other applications, especially when overclocked.

I've been running Windows XP Pro x64 Edition for the last 4 months. How does your Prescot run it? Oh sorry, it doesn't. My bad!

You can't seriously buy that crap about Intel being more stable than AMD, can you? People who believe that usually buy Celerons...lol.

I think he has been brain washed by those intel blue man adds lol

Also the heat that that prescott makes, makes it not stable.

I currently use Intel, I have had AMD in the past and the one thing that pleased me about the switch to P4 was the added stability, I normally support the very latest technology and I want to add one thing, I am not here saying I WILL not have AMD, I do honestly like thier kit and am not having a dig, but when I build my home system I don;t want to faff around I just want to build it and use it, its my livilhood and the extra hassle with AMD with drivers, bios's and stuff just put me off, I can gladly make a decision and accept others views amicably.

Mate, no offense, but I have built 50-100 systems and I know what I am dealing with with the prescott, the switch to AMD failed because nowhere has stock and for my uses I do not really NEED 64 bit processing, please please, heat? It can be cooled, just like you will need to with your first build coming up, I made a decision and I know what it is, but theres no need to keep making out I am stupid.
