Whats worse? Talking about/thinking about something inconsequential, or being caught posting on a thread that you believe inconsequential?

You build better systems by paying attention to the source of crashes/slowdowns or odd behaviour. Uptime is one way of look at this, though quotes on threads like this are about as level as a park football pitch.

    I didn't really think about why i posted, i just did :/

It hit me reading that quote though, why do we really care?

Your point about system reliability is right, but for most users anything over about a day is irrelevant.

We are not most users though, this is an enthusiasts board.
Overclocking that last 2mhz fsb is probably irrelevent, but we still do it, because we can.
We (the enthusiasts) care. I dont see the point in posting on a enthusiasts board saying "who cares". If they dont, then there on the wrong board.

A big uptime stat is nice to have yes, but imho its not as good as getting that extra 2mhz and making it stable, i can leave a tiny built system on forever and a day, its not the same kinda achievment.

maybe i should get my coat at the door of this enthusiasts forums and leave simply because i don't think uptime is as important as other things?

I was using the 2mhz FSB thing as an example, not a law
And it wasn't aimed to you, your not the one who said "who cares", even though you did come out with an equally silly reply

Please don't get me wrong, I'm all for uptimes as a measurement of system reliability (to an extent) - but some people take it to extremes.
Not accusing members here of doing this, but some people keep their pc running, in many cases performing much below standard just to get a longer uptime - which is just silly. This is what I was talking about before my first post was attacked.

If someones router box or something has been online for 3 years then that's a well built and reliable system, and if I owned something like this I would probably be quite proud of it too!

I think most enthusiasts PCs are very reliable and the majority of replies to this thread indicate this, with reboots only really being for system updates.

I agree with knox completely in that uptime doesn't really matter beyond a few days, as your system setup (overclocked to the extreme or not) has been proven to be reliable.

You should have put that as your first post and not just a big "who cares", it would have added much more to the conversation.

i leave pcs on 24/7 just to run seti@home..

average for this rig is 13d 19h 24m
mainly down to powercuts cos i live in the middle of nowhere.
record uptime is 27d 14h 6m over past 69d 1h 22m of uptime out of 70 actual days. 11hrs downtime in 70 days aint too bad for a homeuser.

had 83days out of xp before before the pc chips mobo had an eppy and started locking up due to it not liking gfx cards, why it choose to start acting up aftter 83 days ill never know. have to use the onboard vga with that rig now.

    NF7-S, 200mhz FSB, 2.3gighz, 768MB RAM, 80gig 7200rpm 8 meg cache maxtor.
After the system POST, it gets into windows in under 10 seconds

guess its the 200mhz fsb and all that memory that make it boot pretty quick, my xp2100 tbred b @ stock with 512mb ddr and a 120gb maxtor 7200rpm 8meg cache takes about 20 seconds after post, maybe that's just down to the drive being 3/4 full ?
