    Laptop gone dead

Hi can anyone advise on this:
I have Toshiba Satelitte Pro and when I turn it on nothing appears on the screen, the lights all flash but the screen stays blank.
I tried plugging in a monitor but still nothing so I dont think its the screen.
I know you can turn the video off with the function key but I also tried that.
    Any ideas?

Does the power light flick on then go back off, or does the machine stay on and boot? When you say external monitor, are you waiting a couple of minutes, then pressing fn-F5? Tried plugging in keyboard/mouse/monitor then, as soon as you push the power button, shutting the lid?

If its not coming on, try unplugging the power, then powering up (one at work does that; won't switch on, but will without power in, then you can plug back in); failing that try unplugging everything, battery, leave for half hour or 10 minutes or whatever, then try to power up....

More details if you have them!
    Well Hello!
