Re: Upgrade after 10 years
If it's that old - you're going to need a new case to get the USB3 headers. The PSU is likey aged as well.
What about an OS ?
What are the most likely uses ?
Re: Upgrade after 10 years
Not really fussed about the USB headers. I really like my Akasa Eclipse case and can always get a front panel plate that has USB 3.0 right?
The PSU makes me wonder but it really has been solid and I think came with a long warranty initially. Thinking I can always get a new one if it becomes an issue.
The usage would mostly be multimedia and browsing and occasional gaming.
Currently have Windows 8.1 and will upgrade to 10.
Re: Upgrade after 10 years
Is this bundle from Scan competitive? Would the parts be found cheaper individually elsewhere?

Re: Upgrade after 10 years
Nice to see someone else with an Eclipse. For those that don't remember it there was a standard expansion port backplate on the front so it can be upgraded to anything you can get one of them for:

Power supplies do age but capacity-wise it should still be fine. A GTX 750ti + i5k system will only pull two hundred and something watts under load (if that). You could check if the voltages are still within spec under load.
Computers these days are primarily laptops and tablets, so even the entry level desktop stuff is mid-range. A budget Pentium G4500 offers similar performance to a mainstream i5 like a 6200U.
Re: Upgrade after 10 years
I've just been in a similar situation myself. Was 9 years since my last upgrade.
Ended up with:
Intel Core i5 6600K
Gigabyte Z170 K3
16GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance 3000MHz RAM
NVIDIA GTX 970
You're gonna be sooooooo chuffed when your new stuff arrives! :D

That's exactly what I was thinking. Thanks for the link. Not sure how to test the PSU but it's been solid so far.

That looks like a nice build. I'm definitely going for 16gb of ram too. Only a few quid more. You can spec for it in the bundle.
What SSD did you go for? Did you for the M.2 slot? I'm still a bit confused about it. There seem to be quite a few standards.
What made you go for that motherboard? It's the one thing I can't decide. There's just so many Z170 ones out there. Is there one that is the one to go for in terms of best bang for buck. The price of the gigabyte does seem enticing. I was thinking an Asus but not sure. There's the Z170k Z170A, Z170 pro gaming etc.
