No sound on new system, except really annoying one!

Ok so I have built up my new system and all seemed to be well until I turned on the speakers to listen to some music, all I get is a really high pitch screech, like on all the time.

I have tried the latest drivers, I have tried uninstalling the devices and rebooting to let XP find them and still nothing, I can get no sounds out of it at all apart from the screech, if I got into the sound properties and play one there the screeching lowers and then when the 'sound' has stopped playing it screeches again, its really high pitched.

Its a 5.1 creative Digital card, if I enable the digital output it stops the screeching but it still does not play any music.

    Anyone got any idea?

    System specs:
    P4 3.4 800FSB 775LGA
    Gigabyte GA-8IPE775 Pro Motherboard
    2GB of PC3200 Geil Ram
    XFX 6800GT 256mb
    2 x Seagate Barracuda 160GB drives
    NEC 3520 16X DVD Burner
    Lite-On 52x CD Burner
    Creative 5.1 digital
    Cambridge Soundworks DTT2500

I need to use the creative card to get full surround sound because of the way the DTT2500 three wire config works,

If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it as I am kinda at a lost cause, Also this is a fresh install of XP Pro with SP2 and all updates, along with Office 2003 and SP1 for that just so you got all the info on installed items, p.s. this is playback in WMP10 I am trying....

3 prong thingy on my motherboard? I have never had to conenct one of them, I think you are refering to the one that goes into a cd/dvd drive? if so thats not needed as these files are on the HDD.

I have no sounds at all, not even windows ones

sorted it, moved the card down to PCI slot 4 and voila, must have been an IRQ conflict I guess....

Give a Creative card the wrong PCI slot and it'll hassle you for a long, long time. Lesson learned.
