What a terrible position to be in :)
How much have you got to spend?
toss up between each processor - intel and AMD both make good ones, but its really up to you to be honest. each do the job equally well, though some people sit one side of the fence than the others claiming this that and another thing its really up to you what you get. I believe amd's are a bit cheaper when now is possible to compare like for like motherboards, one intel the other amd. see what you need, and what you like, and within budget.
should be ok then :)
well i was wondering if it really is worth moving to PCI-E ?
also i was thinking of a 3.4 P4 aswell, i have an AMD 64 3000+ atm but would like to upgrade.
its so hard to choose lol ^^
i am doing the same
I am getting a 3500+ winchester and an asus a8v deluxe rev 2.0 mobo
Already had a grfx card - x800 pro vivo modded to xt pe ( connect 3d )
The 3500+ 90 nm knocks the socks off the intel cpus on HL2 benchmarks and also uses less power.
For the mobo and the cpu u are talking about £270
well how much do you want to spend and what do you use your pc most for, if you do alot of video editing (i cant belive im saying this) get a p4. but if you dont get the best AMD 64 you can. Get an nforce4 mobo, ultra or sli. Then get the graphics card depending o weather you want sli or not and of course it all comes down to price.
so it is worth getting an pci e mobo with SLI
well do you want 2 graphics cards, we will have troble helping if you dont tell us how much u can spend.
sorry i forgot to mention money really isnt that much of a problem, i apologise for being vague :)
2 gfx cards would be nice, 2 6800s sounds pretty sweet
upgrade? nay! overclock! YAY! :rockon:Quote:

Do you want to get the best money can buy? If money isn't a problem then get yourself an Asus A8N SLi deluxe and fill it with two XFX Geforce 6800Ultra's and an Athlon FX55. Granted it will cost you well over a grand, but it will be cutting edge. Add in a Mach II and 1-2gigs of low latency PC3200 RAM and you could break some records. ;)
I doubt he is that stupidly rich and stupid.....................
lol im not rich :|
thanks for the help though guys :)
So you have an A64 300+ and an NF3 motherboard? Really, I'd just overclock that, an overclocked 3000+ probably won't show that much difference from a 3500+ anyway. :)
As for the 6800GT, go for it. The one I have overclocks really well (from 350/850 or something like that) to 400/1100, which is I believe 6800 Ultra speeds. And runs all the games I want it to (Doom 3, HL2, Far Cry etc) fine.
How much RAM do you have? I'd make sure to have at least 1GB nowadays tbh.
ok alex i will get the leadtek 6800 GT,Quote:

I have 512mb of Kingston HyperX PC3500 atm, i will buy anouther stick of that most likley... but ive had no loading problems with HL2 or Doom3 on high detail.
Thanks for your help alex :)
Sean
mmmmmmmmmm 2 ultras oh yer fx55 man woooooooooooooo m dreaming, what could i overclock a 3500+ to? and a 6600gt on an ASUS SLI deluxe

ok sorry i really should of, very lazy of me :)
ive got 650 quid (but i could go more i just made myself a budget) and i would like to do something with it as its burning a hold in my pocket lol :D
Right, now what do you use your pc for mostly, then we will know where to put the power.
sorry for the late reply, been bowling tonight :)
i use my machine for gaming and making videos with Sony Vegas.
There were early issues around Leadtek shipping GTOs as GTs. Make absolutely sure that yours is a genuine GT. Price should be some guide - if it seems too good a price to be true...Quote:

I would get an A64 3500+ winchester with and ASUS sli board with an xfx 6800GT (the best 6800gt). But be carefull this will demand power! you will need a good psu. Also there is not much point of a 6800gt with a crappy monitor and how much ram do you have?Quote:

The XFX 6800gt has loads of good reviews and is ranked #1 in a lot of mags, but I'm sure the Leadtek is fine too.
Yes but get the best, and it comes in a cool box.
ive not heard of alot of probs with the leadtek.
i would say i game mostly :) so AMD 64 it is.
ive got 512 kingston hyper X pc3500 atm, and ive had no problems playing hl2 and doom3 on full gfx at all.
Well if you are getting all this quality hardware then get at least a GB of ram, just put another 512 stick in. Alternatively if you do get the ASUS SLI mobo then its dual channel so mabe you could put in a matched pair of sticks, in the dual channel slots and put your current ram stick in the thrid slot for a cool 1.5GB of ram. The ram for that mobo starts at £100 for cheapostuff

to £180 for the best.

And of course there are some in between such as

thanks alot for your help nvening,
this is what im going for :D
1) Leadtek 6800 Ultra (as i managed to grab one off the members market here ;))
2) AMD 64 3500 Winnie
3) Abit AV8 3rd Eye
4) Anouther stick of kingston hyper x pc 3500 :)
Nice, u no that cash burning a hole in your pocket. I could put that fire out lol Oh and btw u will need some ear muffs for that ultra. (or a new fan heatsink thing)
ive already got an NV5, but the leadteks are meant to be really quiet with all the copper :)Quote:

surley thats enough :)
thatul abt do it
oh and how muchdid u get the cpu for? and y not an nforce4 board?
well i read that the nforce 4 isnt much different from nforce 3, it just supports pci-e
i got the mobo and cpu for 240 :) not bad.
I would have suggested Nforce4, but the graphics card you've picked up has tied you down somewhat to AGP :P
The abit 3rd eye board with a 3500+ will definitely last you a long time and also you've got good overclocking headroom there i'd say.
ty :)Quote:
