toss up between each processor - intel and AMD both make good ones, but its really up to you to be honest. each do the job equally well, though some people sit one side of the fence than the others claiming this that and another thing its really up to you what you get. I believe amd's are a bit cheaper when now is possible to compare like for like motherboards, one intel the other amd. see what you need, and what you like, and within budget.
    should be ok then

    i am doing the same

I am getting a 3500+ winchester and an asus a8v deluxe rev 2.0 mobo

Already had a grfx card - x800 pro vivo modded to xt pe ( connect 3d )

The 3500+ 90 nm knocks the socks off the intel cpus on HL2 benchmarks and also uses less power.

For the mobo and the cpu u are talking about £270

well how much do you want to spend and what do you use your pc most for, if you do alot of video editing (i cant belive im saying this) get a p4. but if you dont get the best AMD 64 you can. Get an nforce4 mobo, ultra or sli. Then get the graphics card depending o weather you want sli or not and of course it all comes down to price.

Do you want to get the best money can buy? If money isn't a problem then get yourself an Asus A8N SLi deluxe and fill it with two XFX Geforce 6800Ultra's and an Athlon FX55. Granted it will cost you well over a grand, but it will be cutting edge. Add in a Mach II and 1-2gigs of low latency PC3200 RAM and you could break some records.

So you have an A64 300+ and an NF3 motherboard? Really, I'd just overclock that, an overclocked 3000+ probably won't show that much difference from a 3500+ anyway.

As for the 6800GT, go for it. The one I have overclocks really well (from 350/850 or something like that) to 400/1100, which is I believe 6800 Ultra speeds. And runs all the games I want it to (Doom 3, HL2, Far Cry etc) fine.

How much RAM do you have? I'd make sure to have at least 1GB nowadays tbh.

ok alex i will get the leadtek 6800 GT,

An DFI Lanparty nForce 3 250 mobo, this one here http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...ocket_754.html, as the motherboard i have was kinda cheap, so i will move up the market a lil ^^ but if you can recommend a better Skt 754 mobo, plz do, one thats generally better or better for oc'ing is wat i wanna hear

I have 512mb of Kingston HyperX PC3500 atm, i will buy anouther stick of that most likley... but ive had no loading problems with HL2 or Doom3 on high detail.

    Thanks for your help alex
    Sean
