    Another Keyboard selection thread

    I didn't want to jump on Phage's thread [ http://forums.hexus.net/pc-hardware-...-keyboard.html ] as I have slightly different requirements.

I'm after a new mechanical keyboard for home use (75/25 programming/gaming)

I'm settled on MX Brown switches, I don't want stacks of macro keys, I do want a numpad and I do want a WHITE backlight. I'd prefer a very simple design.

I've been looking at the Corsair K70. I really like the appearance of it (except maybe the large logo), the wrist rest also looks sturdy. The problem is the LEDs are all red. All I want is a dimmable white backlight.

I expect I'd manage to achieve this with the RGB variation of the board, but it's a lot of money to pay just to not have a coloured backlight.

A recentlyfeatured Razer board looked promising, but again only came with bright green backlights.

Malfunction posted a link in the above mentioned thread to this board: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cherry-MX-Bo...rch_detailpage

Which looks-wise is ideal, but only seems to come in MX Red with no backlight.

So can anyone recommend a board fitting those simple requirements? I might just go for a refurbed K70 RGB, but if there's something simpler worth considering, I'd be interested to see it.

    Re: Another Keyboard selection thread

Now that's more like it - lovely and compact - not sure about the 85% version though. Reviews are a bit iffy on the LED failure but it's on my shortlist.

Edit: to get the "Full size" version (with the INS/DEL/END etc and arrow keys) the price jumps from £69 to £150 for the QuickFire XTi . The refurbed K70 RGB is £100 from Scan, £150 new, and looks slightly better IMO.

    Re: Another Keyboard selection thread

Annoying they don't provide the white LED only option in full sized

The Coolermaster MasterKeys Pro L is a bit more affordable than the XTi - £110 in some online shops, though it seems like they haven't shipped over many yet so numbers are scarce. It seems like this is the summer of the mechanical keyboard so if the right one isn't here just yet it will probably appear by Computex (may/June).

Asio MGK1-K? Would need to be imported at the moment so total cost around £85 from Amazon.com (take a long time to arrive, mind).

Another option is a Ducky One Mechanical Keyboard - £100. I think it fits all your requirements but if you prefer a refurbed K70 then go with that.

    Re: Another Keyboard selection thread

That Ducky does indeed seem to fit all the requirements, thanks! Bit of an unknown brand to me, I'll have to check out some reviews but at least it doesn't seem to actually say "Ducky" anywhere on it.

The Azio is also very nice, similar in design to the K70 which is a bonus. Not sure I'd want to import as it'd probably end up the same cost as the refurb K70, an off brand (to me), and not sure if they'd come with a UK keyboard layout. Returns/warrantry would need factoring in if it broke or I didn't like it.

Ducky Shine are Ducky's main products. I think the Ducky One is quite recent (last 6 months) - I tried to look up reviews before posting it (I didn't want to post something without an opinion on it) and I found a review from PlayTechNZ that was short and helpful (although it's not the right colour backlight or frame, it is the same thing).

Definitely do further research before purchasing though!

Sorry it's not overtly helpful as I don't think it's available in the UK, but I'm looking for a good keyboard and following (with difficulty) various reviews, I'm interested in this one

Ducky are one of the best brands for mech keyboards AFAIK.

Does the keyboard I posted for virtuo fit your needs or is there something you need that the code 104 has that the ducky one doesn't?

Sounds like a vote for the Ducky, what do you use instead?

Edit: Corsair forums are full of these issues around 2014 - were you on Reds or Browns? Maybe it's improved in the newer revisions.

My K65 says otherwise, as does my neighbour's K70.

I have the Rapid-i TKL version of that with MX Browns - It's a nice board.
Looks like virtuo's got a decision between that and the Ducky One then.

Indeed, I'm probably 55/45 in favour of the K70 - at least if it goes wrong I'd expect Corsair would be easier to deal with (at a guess). The one I am eyeing up is the V3 revision - which I can't find any reports of this particular board repeating keys - it does have the tramp-stamp logo though.

I've got a day off on Friday, so I''ll be ordering something tonight so I can be around for delivery.
