    Sshhhhhhuttle Woes

ok so im having a few problems with my shuttle and my equipment within it,
    roughly its a 3ghzP4 1gb of 4000, 200gb of storage, and galaxy 6600gt

ok some of the things are:

i THINK its hyperthreading or something like that, its showing two proccessers in cpuZ, and Task Manager, is this right or wrong, is it good or bad for games (games is what i will be oing 90% of the time on this)

playing source i often get a error box telling me it 'can not read from the memory', or 'not enough memory' or something, and it closes source down which is pretty frustrating when your blazing a trail on a server

another problem, the grfx card, galaxy 6600gt does 525/1050 outa the box, so i installed the drivers, and made sure to do the little registry edit thing to allow it to be overclcocked, but now i cant overclock it, i found the powerstrip utility, but when i try to raise the memory (or core) even only one or 2 mhz it wont let me are there any better apps to do this with?

also any pointers on how to go about overclcoking this CPU, or ram or anything to hlp me out would be apreciated

    screenshots that may help:

    thanks...

You can turn off Hyperthreading via the BIOS, but I'm not too sure if you'll need to reinstall WindowsXP for this. TBH, I neither get a gain or loss or performance with HT on or off, so best to leave it as it is.

Can I ask you a question: did you buy this system second-hand? I might be wrong with this, but I'm sure a P4 3GHz Northwood CPU will come with a 200fsb and a multiplier of 15x, and not 230fsb and 13x as you've got.

    It'll be an overclocked 2.6. 13 x 200 = 2600. All Northwood HT's are 800FSB, so its gotta be.

What Proplus probably means is that he doesn't notice any difference. The fact is that unless an application is optimized for HT it will actually run a little bit slower, but in most cases you won't notice it.

Re the graphics card, you may find that they've o'clocked it as far as it goes to get it to its 'stock' speeds. Also, a shuttle is not the ideal environment for overclocking - too hot!

the case is off the shuttle, and its not really that hot, iirc all of the 6600gt's go to 600/1200 no problem,

    any other advice guys?

    1. Hyperthreading - In my opinion great, but opinions vary. I use 3dMax a lot and hyperthreading really does improve performance and reduce rendering time. It may reduce performance on programs not designed for multi threading though, not sure. There are lots of reviews and comparisons on hyperthreading so have a search on google.

    2. The memory problem could be due to the ram not being able to do that overclocked speed. Then again it is pc4000 so it should be able to do those speeds easily. Try increasing the voltage very slightly, or reduce the FSB to normal speeds and see if you get memory problems then.

    3. I have no idea about this sorry.
