Noted, but I'll probably just throw in 16Gb RAM...it's unlikely it'll ever be upgraded thereafter.

Will be? If he's buying a new monitor then I'd definitely be looking at a Freesync one. They start at £99 or whatever so it's not a case of spending more money.

Re: Low budget gaming rig with mid-range ambitions

Okay so I've ordered everything now.

    Ended up buying:

    http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/vX3tCy

...except I got the 4570 from CEX 2nd hand for £110

    Core i5 4570 (Haswell @ 3.2Ghz, Quad Core) @ £110
    https://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku...A#.V_ljF-ArL5V

Total came to around £630.00 (some of the prices on the part picker website are slightly off).

The 16Gb RAM kit that was posted at £57 wasn't actually available (it was nearly to £77) so I opted to scale back to 8Gb. The motherboard can accept additional RAM modules to upgrade to 16Gb if desired later down the road.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will post in the thread a build log once it's put together next weekend with my thoughts.
