Sell or Keep Crossfiire 290x Setup?

I am not sure which path to go down.

In short the 290x will probably drop in valve once the RX480 appears and of course a pair in crossfire would give me much better temps compared to my 290x setup.

So do I?

1, Sell one now and make do with a single 290x and wait for Vega/RX490.

2, Sell both and pickup a RX480 (or 2)

3, Just leave alone accept the devaluation and keep using them until I deem a suitable replacement comes along?

All 3 plans have some merit so not sure which way to go, what would you do?

Other info, will probably go Zen/Kaby Lake towards the end of this year or early next year.

Sorry to say but I think the value of a 290X has already dropped given Ebuyer are doing £100 off a new 390.

So I think that puts forward the question: Are you happy with the 290X setup you have? The rumours are putting the 480 in the same sort of performance ballpark, so you might not notice any difference in games.

That leaves your only real upgrade options as wait for Vega or go Nvidia.

I would wait for Vega, can't say what I would do about your existing 290X cards as I don't really do the second hand market.

Agreed with everything DwU says. Presumably you're not completely unhappy with temps since you're currently running them, so upgrade reasons must be either performance limited in which case wait/nvidia, or they're not actually very good upgrade reasons (I get you're trying to minimise depreciation, but that boat has sailed - better to wait on a new purchase or buy second hand if that's really a concern).

save your cash .. 290x will do you for another yr or 2 .. who knows by then ... or sell just one .. but your not going to get that much for it ..

I have decided they can stay, the RX480 is worth a sidegrade.

Single card performance when I have to use it is great and crossfire performance is epic.

With DX12 support of multi gpu setups coming (it may work well) I may end up keeping them longer than I ever thought I would.

As it is they only set me back £398 when the 390x came out so even at todays used prices I have had my monies worth.

So I will hold out for a raw performance update or potentially a single card matching them for not too much money.
