CPU Overclocking questions? wait for Kaby lake?
I recently purchase a MITX build from 3XS and so far i'm loving it. My question is should i wait for the new Kaby lake to be released and purchase an unlocked i7 then or purchase a i7 Skylake? I know the sockets are going to remain same which is awesome, the last time i tried to upgrade. I was about a year late and Scan did not sell any older gen CPU's and i was stuck with an outdated slow pc till i purchased a new build. My other question is about changing CPU's, the one in my rig right now is OC to 4.2Hz and it is a i5/6600K. What would i need to do if i where to change my CPU's over? Would i need to reinstall windows? would i need to a fresh reboot? reset the default before swapping the CPU? There's one place on my rig that i don't like to touch and that's my CPU. Another question will be would i need to upgrade my PSU. I will be purchasing the GTX 1080/MSI and then later in the future i will be replacing the CPU to a i7 6700k or the new Kaby lake unlocked i7 processor.
Thanks in advanced for the replies back.

Also no! You said you're loving what you've got so why change?

Not likely if it's only CPU that you're changing.

You'll need to turn the computer off completely before changing the CPU.

The BIOS should do that anyway as far as the CPU settings go, but it's not a bad idea to do yourself, or at least set things to auto/default rather than fixed value you're changing to a CPU that has different voltage characteristics.

CPU replacing is fine! No need to change PSU for the CPU. As for the 1080, depends whether you have the right power connectors - if you have a current GPU then you're almost certainly fine.

Unless you use a lot of heavily multi-threaded applications, you will not see ANY benefit from purchasing an i7 6700k.

Currently i have a GTX 970 Amp Extreme core edition by Zotac. They love giving long winded names to GPU for some reason, thanks for the info. I might just stick to i5, i mainly game in high specs but they use about 25% - 75% of each core. I dont think ill see any benefits for using a i7. Glad to know i don't need to do anything except turn the pc off, disconnect all power source and reapply some thermal paste maybe. Thanks again guys :D
