    Question North Bridge

    What is the North Bridge? I know it connects to the cpu and thats the FSB and that it conects to the RAM. But what is it and what does it look like?

    it is a chip... intel northbridges are like p3/pentiumMs...

    Not quite right there silon - although to be fair northbridges *look* like older processors these days.

    Basically a northbridge is the center of your motherboard's "chipset". Once wikipedia loads I'll give you a proper description...

    In Northbridge/Southbridge chipset architecture designs, the Northbridge is the chip or chips that connect a CPU to memory, the PCI bus, Level 2 cache and AGP activities. The Northbridge chips communicate with the CPU through the FSB.
    On this board:


    The northbridge is under the passive heatsink next to the CPU's HSF, and the southbridge is under the smaller heatsink.
