Yeah i know what you mean. As far as i'm aware, neither the OCZ nor the Antec have the dual rails thing, but from what you say the NeoPower may well have it.
From what i understand, it splits the 12v rail into 2 smaller ones to prevent people getting shocks or something. I'm not aware of the PS520 having this feature, and i dont use specific lines for specific things in my system. Mind you, they have stuck a couple of braided round cables in there, for use with "HDD/VGA" as it says on the molexes. Don't know what's better about them, maybe a cleaner supply? I dont know much about electricity

The Powerstream 520 doesn't have dual 12v rails, but the 600 does.
I have mental block - is the mobo power 12 or 5 volts?

Reading a link in another post by Pudds, I think, and many people are having problems with the Asus SLI board and 2xGT's or similar, due to underestimated (but by no means shoddy) PSU choices..

Sorry to kinda hijack this thread, but I daren't start _another_ thread called "PSU"

I've been looking at the power requirements for the Asus AN8-SLI-Dlx and it states 20/25A@12v. Presumably this means a 20/25A draw in total, powering all the drives/devices etc, OR is it suggesting that the mobo requires 20/25A available on a single rail?!

The OCZ Powerstream 520's specs are:
    +3.3V(28A), +5V(40A), +12V(33A)

The OCZ Powerstream 600's specs are:
    +3.3V(28A), +5V(46A), +12V1(20A), +12V2(18A)

I'm not missing anything, am I? I'm assuming the 520 will be more than adequate? As I wrote in a previous post, I have read that dual rail supplies are not recommended for the motherboard, but I presume that this is because people either don't distribute that load sensibly between the rails, or that neither of the rails is capable of independantly supplying this 20/25w requirement?

Many many thanks for clearing this up,
    S.

Just to throw in a spanner here. How many people who are having PSU/ASUS SLI problems are using one of the two molex to 6-pin adapters? Are they aware that the first batch of these (all made by Akasa, including the own brands I believe) were wired incorrectly so that they're getting a 5v feed rather than a 12v?

Don't know the answer to that. There does seem to be a fair size group of disgruntled Asus customers on the anandtech forums, pointing fingers here there and everywhere, but I don't want to get involved in any conversations there, unless I have to..

ive seen that too, its easy to just swap the two wires around though so i think people are making too big an issue of it.

Can anyone put my mind at rest on this one..? Can't make my mind up whether to go for the single rail 520w or the Dual rail 600w...

    Many thanks,

Hehe the thread I found on there about "PSU won't power up my SLI" the guy couldn't get his plugs in the right sockets.

Is it me or are there suddenly a lot of people building their own PCs that shouldn't be let loose with a screwdriver, let alone delicate electronic components?

A very good and easy to understand article about PSU's, what is required and how to calculate your power requirements is here.

He even outlines the requirements for a SLi rig.
