Artic Silver 5: temps rising over time

i dont know if this is the right place to ask something like this or not, but anyways....
have any of you noticed that your temps rising bit by bit over time after applying AS5?
for example: i installed an nv5 over my 6800gt [using AS5 as thermal paste] and the temps were 58C on idle. now, 2months later, its around 63C!!!
i cleaned the core and HS and re-applied another layer of AS5, and the temps are now 59C on idle....
as for my CPU, the max temps used to be 52~53C, and im seeing max temps of around 57C even....

can someone please shed light into this issue/embrace me with ur advice? LOL

Is it getting hotter over there atm?? The seasons play a huge role in the temps...

i live in a tropical climate... the temps are very much the same throughout the year :D
apparantly a couple of other people from another forum has been experiencing the same thing as well...

hmmm.. Dunno then?? Maybe its all the 1337 tropicalness making your artic silver all depressed and so it goes on a holiday so that it can become happy again, then realises that it doesnt want to come back.. You should treat it with respect and stuff...

Actually.. I have no idea then :(

I have experienced the same thing here in Blightly.

Not much you can do about it except re-seat the waterblock every so often

Are your fans getting dusty?

A layer of dust on a fan can dramatically effect its air throughput.

hmmm i wonder if taking out the HS and re-applying the thermal paste will magicly clean all the dust from the blades of the fan away LOL

This happened to me when the fluctuations meant the difference between stability and instability. I found that after a fresh application, temps were about 41deg idle, and then after about 10 days they had increased to 45!

I found that loosening the fit of the heatsink (947u) meant this rise in temps took longer to happen...

In theory if the two mating surfaces are perfectly flat, you need no TIM.

I put a mega thin layer of AS5 on my CPU.

I thought it was to fill the microscopic imperfections in both of the surfaces, as they can never be totally flat...

eh? hmmm i think ill try this [to my gcard] when im free to do more temp logging and all... :)
i dun think i can do anything to my AMD Stock cooler... the level of tightness of the retention system cant be set, right?

i wonder why this issue hasnt been broguth up before... as it seems that at least a couple of people here n' there have experienced this before...

Nah you can't adjust the tightness to the stock cooler. My theory was that the sink was slowly squeezing it out or somehow changing the way i put it in initially, as that was the only way i could explain it. At the time i posted around a bit asking for help, but nobody knew what was going on and i sounded stupid :D

It happened to me I thought, but then I realised my fans have all got clogged up with dust, thats propably your main problem.

Seepage is a known issue where the paste migrates away from the centre of the core, I have noticed with AS that sometimes you get seperation of the suspending fluid from the micronised particles if the tube lies around for a bit.

Keep the tube cap down in a cool place and if thin fluid comes out of the nozzle wipe it away and re-apply the compound.

thank you for that info... i will try it when im free.. the AS5 tube is currenlty in the fridge facing downwards -as AS recommends-

Might have something to do with the heating up and cooling down of the thing when you turn it on and off, expansion and contraction an' all.

Interesting stuff about the fridge and suspension fluid etc. I have certainly learned from this thread :)

Will do the fridge thing next time i'm reapplying :) Cheers
